Plexamp 4.4 on Windows 7 64-bit - Opens as nonfunctional black rectangle

Hello,

Running on Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit machine Plexamp 4.3 auto-updated to 4.4. Now when I start the program, it only opens as nonfunctional black rectangle.

I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled 4.4 with no change. I also uninstalled 4.4 and installed 4.3. That worked until I closed it out and it automatically installed 4.4.

What are your thoughts on a suggested fix?

great username

i can only assume the issue is due to updated electron, but i’m afraid i don’t have a specific recommendation as this is the first case of it i’ve seen.

Thank you, @elan! :slightly_smiling_face:

This is at least the third event this week that has reminded me that I need to get this box upgraded to Windows 10 someday soon! In the meantime, I tried downgrading back to 4.2.2, but it still prompts me that it will upgrade to 4.4 after exit which begins the cycle over again. I love the auto-update, just wish I could disable it for now.

Ahh I hadn’t read that on my phone. Almost certainly an issue which you wouldn’t have in 10 or 11

I have been having this issue as well for the last few days. Plexamp is the main music player on my media server, so I haven’t been able to stream my music at work. Upgrading my server to win 10 is not an option.

I would assume fix: uv_os_gethostname failing on Windows 7 (libuv patch regression) by trop[bot] · Pull Request #35703 · electron/electron · GitHub will fix it (h/t to @aubrey.wodonga for finding that), we just need to wait until it’s released.

I have precisely the same problem. And it completely reproducible. I uninstall the latest version, install the older version and it works. Then when PlexAmp automatically updates, it goes back to a black screen only.

Any help would be appreciated (even if there was a way to stop automatic updates.)

Thank you

We’re waiting for electron to release an update, after which we’ll release a hot-fix with the newer version.

Thank you.

Is it possible to remove the automatic update in the meanwhile?

Just making sure we are getting an update? Haven’t been able to use plexamp for about 2 weeks. I love plexamp, but if I can’t use it I’ll have to look for something else. Thanks.

Yep, sorry, will be out with next release, which we’re wrapping up beta testing for shortly.

Awesome ty so much!

Electron fixed this 4 weeks ago. Could we get a beta version or something with this fixed? I miss Plexamp :frowning:

Sorry for the long delay; next release is awaiting review and should be out in the next few days.

It has been released: https://plexamp.plex.tv/plexamp.plex.tv/desktop/Plexamp%20Setup%204.5.0.exe

After install, it is working! :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you @elan and team for your continued hard work and dedication to music player excellence, even on “older” computers!

Time to reboot this old box!
