Plexamp AmpImage on Ubuntu, Gnome, and Mint issues

I have been playing around with this new platform called AppImages on the latest version of Ubuntu. A couple of the AppImage apps I have downloaded seem to work great but the rest have some quarks that I am sure are just learning curves that be beginners have to muddle through to find fixes. One of the major issues I have discovered is with the PlexAmp for Linux. Though the PlexLab website makes it sound like the wonder of wonders, I can’t seem to find any controls that work properly. I do have two libraries of music set up, one of them being a library of Christmas Music, but there is no clear cut way to select another library.

I am on the Ubuntu desktop and I have found in the past that some programs run better on Mint, KDE, or Gnome if there is an issue on Ubuntu or Ubuntu wayland. Is there an environment that the PlexAmp AppImage runs better on? Again, it sounds like a promising app but I don’t need to hear “Jingle Bells” and “Hark the Harold Angel Sings” in the middle of February.

You can switch libraries via the tray menu which should appear when running Plexamp. However, in some Linux distros there are … issues with that showing up.

I have the tray app but apparently i don’t have the appropriate font installed. all characters in the menu are just open rectangles, making it very difficult to navigate.

can you share what font i need to install to be able to decipher this?

Hmm, I’m sorry, I’ve never seen that one

It’s happening to a lot of us - myself as well as:
