I’ve been using PlexAmp on Android to cast to Chromecast devices for months now, but today it suddenly won’t work anymore. I can still Chromecast from other audio apps, just not Plexamp. It’s the same on mulitple Chromecast devices.
EDIT: I think I might have fixed it! It seems that my Android phone had automatically disabled some permissions for the PlexAmp app. When I re-enabled everything, it Chromecasting worked again =)
I spoke too soon. Now it doesn’t work anymore after all, so the permissions setting was not what impacted it =(
However, I tried to install PlexAmp on another Android device, and Chromecasting works perfectly there, even without giving the app any permissions what so ever.
Which makes me suspect that the problem might actually be related to how PlexAmp mishandles it’s Chromecast connection.
Because I’ve noticed that PlexAmp actually keeps the Chromecast connection alive at all times until you actively disconnect it. Even if you start using another app to send something through Chromecast and then forget all about it for several weeks… The very moment you open the PlexAmp app again it will automatically connect to the Chromecast device by itself. So it feels like PlexAmp keeps the connection alive in the background at all times, until you actively disconnect it.
So my current theory is that this might cause some automatic firewall (either on my modem or on the actual Chromecast device) to ban the PlexAmp connection after an overload of pings? It could explain why it suddenly worked for a little while (just when I tinkered with the app permissions) because the firewall had lifted the ban after a certain period, only to now re-instate it after being hammered with new pings.
