Plexamp cannot cast downloads, maybe switch automatically to non-downloads instead?

Hey, wanna preface this by saying I love Plexamp. I have had a suggestion for a while and have been contemplating how to properly give feedback. If there is a better platform, way, web-form, or anything please inform me. I am also very new to using the forum so I hope this is the right category and place.

A typical day for me involves commuting so I listen to my offline Plexamp playlists on my phone to save data. Typically I might come home and want to continue my session on my speakers through my receiver, so I flick up Plexamp and attempt to cast to a Chromecast. I am then greeted by an error saying that downloads cannot be cast.

That is very understandable, and I am apparently not the first person who has mentioned this:

I had plexamp working fine on Android 10 phone casting to Raspberry Pi. However, i am getting a message “Cannot cast downloads” on the phone today when i select raspberrypi. However, the media controls on ‘Select Player’ screen under ‘raspberrypi’ are working fine. So the phone is getting the active song details, but is unable to cast. I have tried rebooting both phone and raspberry, but it did not fix the issue. On the other hand, i am able to cast from my Linux Desktop to raspberrypi. It seem…

I was not even aware that casting of downloaded files was a potential future feature (mentioned in the link), and I don’t really need it to be honest, but I was hoping for some option to “switch” to non-downloaded files when casting instead. I don’t really need to continue using offline files when I come home and want to cast, but I want to preserve my queue. Maybe instead when I try to cast from an offline playlist, I get a warning that it is switching to “online” files and my queue is rebuilt using the “online” playlist? That would be great for my use case.

I am not sure how hard this is to implement, or even possible, but thank you for listening to my feedback.

We’d like to allow casting from downloads; it’s tough to switch to non-downloads for things like playlists, e.g. which might not match what’s online.

Thank you for the reply. If casting downloads is still planned and simpler to execute, then that is probably the solution to go for.

I guess I just assumed switching to non-offline playlists would be as simple as comparing track IDs, but the complexity is probably beyond my understanding

I run into this all the time. Playing downloaded music on my phone, come home and try to change the music on the headless plexamp but need to stop the music on my phone, play something else, and then connect to the plexamp headless device. It’s really an awkward process.
