Plexamp doesn't work on my corporate network

Server Version#: 1.26.2.5797
Player Version#: Plexamp 4.2.2

I’ve talked to my local on-site IT team and they can’t see what the issue would be. I can access Plex.tv fine from the office, can play music from Plex just fine via the web player, but plexamp itself completely fails when I’m on my corporate network.

Looking at the Plexamp logs, I’m seeing a lot of errors like this:

Jun 07, 2022 11:27:16.386 [Javascript] WARNING - DEVICE: Connection testing failed for Chris-PLEX

Jun 07, 2022 11:27:16.386 [Javascript] WARNING - DEVICE: Server connection https://string.plex.direct:8443 didn’t work for Chris-PLEX: HTTP status -28

Is there anything I can be looking at or changing to make it work? Does plexamp use a different URL from the main plex.tv that may be blocked by my network admin?

-28 is a curl timeout. which usually ends up being a firewall issue or a DNS issue.

xxxx.plex.direct is the standard URL used for servers with secure connections enabled… The string is the UUID for your servers certificate

Thanks for this. I can’t ping plex.direct on my office network, so maybe it is a firewall issue?

Seems like this may be an issue outside of my control.

Sometimes they lock down ports other than 443, so if you expose your server on that port, it might be helpful.

(Also posting the whole log instead of just snippets!)

I’ve put my server on port 8443 (often necessary for https to work properly with many services and thus often left open) for this exact reason. As I run other services from home binding 443 for Plex was not ideal for me.

yeah there are usually a few ports like this which firewalls leave alone
