Looks like my app updated to 4.7.0 in the past hour. Now when I launch the app I get the splash screen followed by just a black screen. Tried force stopping, restarting phone and clearing cache. Would try uninstalling but would that mean my local downloads would need downloading again?
We just published v4.7.1 which may fix that issue.
Thanks, I just got the update through now. Unfortunately the issue persists. I had used the app via Android Auto earlier today, before I got the 4.7.0 update.
It’s rather bizarre, I see no recent crash reports from you.
Reinstalling the app would nuke your local downloads. I’m trying to think of why else you’d be seeing that ![]()
Yeah it’s not crashing. It’s a OnePlus 8T running Android 13. Should I try reinstalling or is there anything I can do to produce debug logs or something?
I don’t mind redownloading everything if it comes to that, I don’t have all that much anyway.
a few thoughts:
- try rebooting the phone, just in case, and triple check you have 4.7.1
- if you can run adb, a log would be very useful
I am getting this on IOS as well. I was listening music in the car and it like locked up and wouldn’t play. So I killed the app and then tried to start it again and I get the splash screen for a split second and then got to just a black screen. Tried powering off… hard shut down but still nothing. upgraded to 4.7.1 this morning.
I got 2000+ items and don’t really want to download all that again.
I reinstalled the app and it’s working now. Didn’t have too many downloads so it was easier than trying to debug further. If it happens again I will try using adb to get at the logs.
Dammit, I checked Bugsnag and I don’t see anything from you either. Any chance you’re blocking it using e.g. DNS?
Trying to narrow down… have you done any home screen customization offhand?
I am almost positive I am not blocking any DNS servers or anything like that on the phone or at the router. I have not done any screen customization. I upgraded to 4.7.0 and it worked just fine and did not change anything on my home screen. I then got the update for 4.7.1 and was listening to music for a good 2 hours or so on bluetooth connections until it locked up and I force closed the app. Opening it now just gets the blank screen but the regular plex app works just fine.
For my home screen, I keep it pretty simple. I think I just have new albums, last band played and Top (Random) month. I think I also get on there mixes it makes and song history.
I see a 4.7.2 is out and maybe doing an update might do something. I will let you know.
4.7.2 just fixes an issue on Linux.
If anyone runs into this on Android and has the ability to get logcat, we’d greatly appreciate it, without a crash being reported we’re in the dark a bit.
Otherwise, please reach out and we’ll work with you to figure out what’s going on.
@ASiDiE @Joshimitsu91 ,if that matter, do you have the plexamp app installed on the phone memory or on a SD card?
ASiDiE, could your try to empty the cache?
In my case, this is an Iphone but was getting the same thing the OP was getting. So it’s on the Iphone Memory as there is no SD card. I couldn’t wait and decided I need a clean slate anyway. I deleted the app and installed it again and seems to be working fine for now.
Just trying to assemble clues here— were any/all of you playing offline content when you ran into the grey screen?
Elan,
I am almost positive I was… I was going through some new albums and adding them to offline content and then was listening to that in the car with a Bluetooth connection and it locked up. I killed the app and then tried to start it again and that’s when I got the black screen.
We just released v4.7.3 which contains a few fixes, we’re hoping it might address this issue as well. Thanks for your patience ![]()
My Plexamp app updated to 4.7.3 last night on my iPhone. I was driving somewhere and was playing downloaded content when the same issue happened for me. Whenever I start Plexamp now, I just get a black screen.
This is on my iPhone XR running iOS 16.3.
i’m sorry to hear that, we are still looking into a possible cause for this. if there are any more clues you can give us, we’d love to hear them.
We’ve found and fixed the issue; we’ll be pushing to the stores later on today, review and approval can take between 24 hours and a week, so stay tuned ![]()
