Server Version#: Plex Media Server Versione: 1.42.2.10156
Player Version#: Plexamp 4.4 (Android)

Salve a tutti,

Grazie mille, saluti

Hi everyone,

Since the Plex Media Server app has been updated on my WD PR2100 NAS a few months ago I cannot seem to connect to the server via Plexamp from outside my home network if the desktop computer to which the NAS is connected to is off.

This shouldn’t happen, as the WD NAS is correctly set up and configured, and is reachable remotely on different apps (namely, WD’s MyCloud app, either from smartphone or web browser) also when computer is off.

I’ve been reading posts and articles on several forums and tried various things to no avail: uninstall and reinstall the app from the NAS, disabling it and re-enabling, rebooting the NAS and the computer. Before the update everything run smoothly, and I could listen to my music collection from everywhere through Plexamp installed on my Android Samsung Galaxy phone.

Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks

Do you run the Plex Media Server on your WD NAS or on your Windows machine?
If it’s on your Windows machine, that computer needs to be running in order for Plex clients to be able to play its media – no matter if that media resides on the NAS or elsewhere.

Hi,

Actually, I think it’s installed on both. Should I maybe try to uninstall it on my Windows machine? Maybe that’s what’s causing the issue…

Problem solved. I uninstalled both the Window and the NAS apps, resetting the Plex database also, following the instructions on My Cloud: Ripristina il database Plex, then reinstalled just the NAS app.

Plex had to recreate all the libraries, but eventually everything works fine.
