Plexamp not connecting to be Bose Chromecast Built-in update

Anyone know how to get Plexamp working with the recent Bose Smart Speaker built-in Chromecast update?
Tried everything, other apps connect perfectly.
Whilst the speaker does show up in the cast list it will not connect, however Plexamp and Plex app will connect to other Chromecast devices in the list - just not the Bose!

I too am having the same issue, everything else connects as you have mentioned, but maybe Plex needs to add a few lines of code to add the bose “ecosystem”?

I spoke with Elan earlier in the week. It would appear that Plex users a Chromecast Audio + Video receiver, Bose Smart Speakers are Chromecast Audio only. You cannot cast from a video app or any MP4 file etc, it says this on the Bose product pages.
Plexamp uses the same video+audio Chromecast receiver as full Plex apparently and this looks to be the issue.
Elan has passed this to the team internally. Maybe a future update will see Plexamp with a Chromecast audio only receiver, who knows.
This is as much a Bose issue as it is Plexamp to be fair and quite frustrating but that’s as far as I know.
I have found an app that you can add the Plex server to and casts audio only but you don’t get any playlists. Hi-Fi Cast on Google play.

Interesting that Apple Airplay 2 will work with Plexamp without any issues ( I don’t profess to be a ‘coding expert’, but there should be some similarities bety casting audio, but what do I know
 ) not placing blame on anyone or anything, just seems that we Chromecast/ droid user’s get the short end of the stick when it comes to compatibility between closed ecosystems.

I hope Plex finds a work-around, as I migrated from the Apple system for my audio collection as the IPods we’re becoming more of a hand held computer than what they were originally intended for, music. My audio collection is vast, and I love Plex for what it does for me, both audio and video.

It appears that Sonos is compatible with Plex too, but not us droid’s. Fingers crossed that they find a solution.

But am forever grateful for Plex and what I can do with it sans bose at the moment. (I was initially elated that Bose was including Chromecast
 ).

Thanks for the update!

It’s nonsense for Plexamp to target Google Cast Video.

This isn’t a solution and just makes the issue less visible.

Agreed. As I said, Elan is aware of the issue now and passed it onto the team. Will it get resolved? fingers crossed because like others I was really looking forward to Bose getting the Chromecast update only to be thwarted by Plexamp’s Chromecast receiver. Hopefully it gets resolved soon

I almost cried when my Bose speakers appeared in the plexamp cast list and simply refused to connect

That’s not how it works, and we’re not that dumb

We cast to the Plex Chromecast receiver, which is what’s running on the devices. In general, it works fine with lots of other Chromecast devices which are audio-only (e.g. Google Home speakers).

So I’d turn your argument around and say it’s nonsense for Bose to not just play the audio which is sent to it like other Chromecast devices do.

I absolutely believe you when you say that Bose has done something strange. But the fact also remains that things like Spotify can successfully connect to them via Google Cast so it does work, there is a way to approach it on the player side.

Us users can blame either party at this point (and should also be bothering Bose not just you) but I feel like Plex is in a better position to give users a timely workaround with a Plexamp update than Bose is to produce a new firmware for a whole line of hardware. And lets face it, Plexamp is the niche component in this issue - if the casting is working from all of the major apps then Bose probably won’t care much that relatively few users can’t use Plexamp.

We’ll figure it out eventually, promise. Just not at the top of the priority list, sadly.

Not sure if anyone is aware of this as a workaround but come across it on another forum and it works

‘If you own a Google native device, like a nest mini, start a group on that first using one of the apps that won’t work on the Bose. Then add the Bose speaker in the Google home app’

I set up groups in the Google home app adding a Chromecast audio dongle to the Bose as a group and hey presto
Plexamp casts to the Bose speakers

Hey team, did this ever get resolved? It’s still not working for me but I’m less sure if that’s a me thing or the continual crapness of Bose / long stack of Plex work.
