Plexamp on android - user could not be authenticated

I am unable to get logged into plexamp on my android phone. Plex works and plexdash works just fine. Plexamp will not work with browser login or direct login with email/password. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I have cleared out cache and storage for the app.

Can you tell us what error you get? Does it work with browser directly?

Sorry, the error is user could not be authenticated like in the subject. I should have put that in the mesage also. I’m able to log in on the application on a windows pc, I was able to log into the app on my phone 6 months ago or so. So far the only thing I can’t get working is the plexamp android app.

That doesn’t make a lot of sense. Can you sign in directly with the browser on your Android phone?

I agree it does not make much sense. That is why I am here. I don’t know of any way to sign into plexamp through a browser, but I can get into the normal plex.tv site and log in there and launch the plex app that way.

I’m even more confused now

  • You said “Plexamp will not work with browser login”, so I assume you’d tried this already.
  • If it works with Chrome, it should work with the Sign in with browser option inside Plexamp.

I also see a handful of successful logins on Plexamp on Android in our cloud auth logs within the last few hours, confusing me even further.

Agreed! It should but nothing happens when I try that with plexamp. Works fine with plexdash. Been trying to figure out how to clear out any other data that might be hanging around but have been unable to get the behavior to change.

So to try and be more clear, neither of the login options presented to me with plexamp are working. Typing in username/password gives me the user could not be authenticated error. Click on the log in with browser brings me to a login screen, I login there and it says yay close this window now. Closing it or leaving it open and moving back to the plexamp app spins for a second and then takes me right back to the login prompt.

The only thing I can imagine is some sort of proxy or weird network restriction on the app, or malicious thing in the middle messing with the traffic. You might be able to see clues in logcat if you’re able to access, or Plexamp.log if you’re able to access the filesystem.

I will take a look and see what I can find. I have tried on 5g, and 2 different wireless networks with the same results at this point.
