Plexamp randomly misses artists/albums from my library

So I just downloaded Plexamp within the past couple weeks. I’ve been trying a number of media players and found Plexamp, which I’m excited about, with my integration with my plex server. However, I’m having one very significant issue.

I have found that I will randomly be missing albums/artists from my media list. So, working from home I’ve decided to listen to my entire music library A-Z. The other day I started the S group, and I noticed that Smashing Pumpkins were missing. I know I have them, as I have every album. So I went to my media server to check the directory. Yep all albums were there. So I pulled up the plex server, and the plex server verified that all my albums were there. I did a quick comparison of what Plexamp was seeing vs what the plex server was actually seeing and it was missing a lot of albums/artists. So i reset the server, reset plexamp, and reset my computer. When everything booted back up it appeared to be seeing everything again. ok, no problem, wait for it… next day albums/artists were missing again.

Bug? or is there something I’m missing?

do you have multiple sources/libraries?
are you able to search for them in Plexamp?
is your metadata / folder structure correct?

Excellent questions.

  1. No, all music is stored in a single location and linked to plex as music category.
  2. I’ll have to wait for the albums/artist to go missing again. I haven’t been using Plexamp because of the issue. but I’ll start running Plexamp again and check on this when they don’t show up in All Music anymore.
  3. I use MusicBrainz Picard to deal with all metadata. All albums have been formatted exactly the same.

cool. yeah, folder structure is important as well, but that’s more on the server side of things.

I have over 50k tracks/5k albums and have not run into this issue.

“50k tracks/5k albums” WOW. Well ok. I imagine its something on my end if that’s the case. All the tracks I have right now are mp3’s and the like. But I’ve been re-ripping all my music to lossless. I’ll point the plex server to the lossless folder, see if I see the same issue.

Thanks for the feedback.

oh man i’m right there with yah… with the new codec badges i’m re-ripping /re-obtaining my sh!77y music too. LOL… on my way to FLAC library WOO!
folder structure should be
library>artist>album>track

i have a mixture of music as well… flac, wma, wav, mp3, m4a, mp4… first thing was to get those dang wav and wma files changed to FLAC.

It’s possible that certain pages of data could go missing when scrolling through giant lists in All Music.

This will be more than addressed in the next release

Ok, so I’m not crazy. Well, that’s good to know.

@sekthree yep FLAC for sure. Recently started to upgrade my audio setup, DAC, Tube AMP, new Headphones. So trying to get the best possible sound, while I’m sitting at my desk. Figured weakest link and all, so I started to re-rip my audio. Problem is, damn do CD’s get scratched easy.

Yep, folders are absolutely setup library>artist>album>track. of course it seems there actually might just be a bug. So I’ll have to wait and see what happens with the next update.
