I was super excited to see that Tidal tracks show history in Plexamp, but was disappointed that they do not write to the real plex history. I just signed up for Tidal to test it out. I like the supplemental music that it provides… but, one reason I really like to have my music in plex is for the stats. I love to have “Most played” in Jan, etc. I also run Tautulli. Not collecting the plays in Plex seems unfortunate.
So, this works if you have the songs added to your music library. I pretty much only listen to TIDAL this way (I’m weird). So, if you find an album under the TIDAL library, you can add to Music. This will place the album in your local Plex music library. Those plays are tracked as if they were regular ol’ songs in your library.
For me, I like the way it works now. If I want to sample an artist or album, I can do so under the TIDAL library without registering those plays as history. For everything else, I like to add it to my music library. I can also edit some of the metadata this way, and when the play is registered, it isn’t Song (2014 Remaster) from Album (2014 Remaster).
I personally agree with @Noah0504, that’s how I use it as well. TIDAL for sampling and discovering, and then pull it into server (purchase on Amazon or Bandcamp).
