Plexconnect stuck at serving /js/application.js

Hello,

I very carefully followed the instructions found in the Wiki to install plexconnect but when I launch Trailers on the ATV it says it’s not available. On my terminal windows it says :

DNSServer: DNS request received!
DNSServer: Source: ('192.168.1.8', 52970)
DNSServer: Domain: trailers.apple.com
DNSServer: ***intercept request
DNSServer: -> DNS response: 192.168.1.75
WebServer: serving /js/application.js

Here are all the infos of my setup :

I hope you can help.

Certs installed on aTV?

Yes, using this method : https://langui.sh/2013/08/27/appletv-ssl-plexconnect/

If you want to try OpenPlex in my signature you can follow these steps:

Delete all certs (profiles) from your aTV

Reboot your mac and do not start plexconnect

Download and open OpenPlex

Click the settings icon in the openplex menubar

In the settings tab click install (new users) this will require a password (be patient and wait until the progress bar stops)

in the theme tab click iBaa and ignore the CLT and pillow stuff you don’t need it (be patient and wait until the progress bar stops)

In the hijack tab choose any hijack this will generate new certs and start plexconnect (be patient and wait until the progress bar stops)

In the same hijack tab load the certs using the network method which requires no USB (click aTV guide & click cert URL to load new certs)

Reboot aTV

Try your chosen hijack

Otherwise here is the network method to load certs:

https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/wiki/Install-Guide-Certificate-via-Ethernet

I have better luck and find it easier to type in the “plexconnectip/trailers.cer” without the quotes into my aTV’s for example I type this URL into all my aTV’s since it’s my local OSX IP address (no http prefix required):

192.168.1.101/trailers.cer

Thank you wahlman.j for your suggestion.

Openplex is amazing, makes things so much easier, I even decided to change the Plex icon with it.

And thank you people behind plexconnect for your work, it’s just amazing !

Which icon (app) did you change to the plex icon?

The "iMovie Theatre" one. It's the only one possible out of the 3 ones that can be used to access Plex from within openplex, isn't it ?

On iOS 5-7 there is quite a few but out of the usual ones only iMovie works since trailers and wsj are static icons on the iOS.

On iOS (7) 8 Im looking for testers for wsj & trailers.

If you just loaded the icon today you are on iOS (7) 8. Apple makes it confusing to which aTV iOS you are using:

iOS Firmwares

If you want, and if it is not too complicated, I could make a test for you.

It'd have to be today and tomorrow thought, because then I won't have access to the Apple TV no more, it's not mine and I only have it until tomorrow.

I hope that can help.

If you have the time and don’t mind testing it would benefit all iOS 8 plex icon users. Screenshots would be great also

All right then, let me know how I can help.  :)

Try to upload the plex icon via trailers and wsj. It will require the same steps you used prior to replace the iMovie icon just using those hijacks instead.

OK I'll try that and let you know. So there's no extra step needed ?

Just start over and follow what you did prior but use the wsj first then do the icon upload like you did prior as well. Then start over and do the same for trailers.

Just finished doing it with the Trailers app and it worked indeed. I'll try WSJ later and report here.

BTW, I always have a trouble for the "adding profiles" step. First it gives me an error when I try to add it, then l finally manage to get it after reboots/reconfigurations/etc…but when I open the hijacked app it hangs on opening for ages. Only after new tests and tries and rebooting can I finally get it to work but never the first time… Once I got it right it stays OK, which is good. Any thought on that ?

Also, after I change the DNS server IP address in the aTV. I got the icons OK but after first reboot I just get the Computer + Settings and I have to switch the DNS server IP to automatic again to have it all OK again. Than I can put it back to fixed IP. Is that normal ?

That’s due to the appletv acting up. Usually a reboot wil clear the cache and allow it to work right. If you can get the screenshots also it would be great of wsj and trailers working with the any plex icon on iOS 8.

Once your done loading the icon you should redo your plexconnect minus the plex icon part so the remaining icons can load followed by a reboot of your aTV. But it seems normal what you are experiencing since plexconnect is still in “icon serving mode”.

OK I’ll take pictures of my TV with the icons.

I had the remaining icons fine after a reboot, didn’t need to “redo” my plexconnect.

So you’re saying the DNS issue is normal and I should reinstall plexconnect to solve the profile loading issue ?

OK I solved the DNS issue and profile loading issue by restarting my Mac. I don't know why but it's the only way to solve this, just restarting PlexConnect doesn't work. Re-installing PlexConnect or rebooting the aTV doesn't help either and isn't necessary to solve the issue. As I was in the process of testing the Plex icon possibilities, I had to re-do the process more than once and can confirm that in my case, after having the new icon set, it is necessary to reboot my Mac for PlexConnect to work, but it isn't necessary to reinstall PlexConnect.

As for the Plex icon, it does indeed work with both Trailers and WSJ, in addition to iMovie. Screenshots below.

Awesome work thank you!

My pleasure, it's the least I could do. :)

You are the one to be thanked for your amazing work.
