PLEX's Music Tracks not same order as Track Number in MetaTags

ŸI’ve been unsuccessfully attempting to get PLEX to list the tracks of a particular music album in the order of the “Track Number” listed in the modified MetaTags (using Tag Editor app on my Mac)

ŸI’m doing this using the PMS on my NAS, which is Synology DS-418play, running the current version of PMS (PlexMediaServer-1.13.6.5339-115f087d6-x86_64.spk)

Ÿ But PLEX persists and rearranging the tracks to some other order, not even alphabetical.

ŸI have combined 2 CDs (a Part 1 and a Part 2) into a single PLEX album. In so doing, I changed the names of the tracks to begin with “01” all the way up through “17” which was the final track after the 2CDs were combined. Also I changed the MetaTags to give each track a Track Number which is the same as the number beginning the file name. And I entered the total number of tracks to be equivalent to the total in this case (in the “Tracks Total” column in the Tag Editor), which happens to be 17.

Ÿ I have gone (in “settings”) to “Agents” > “Albums” > “Personal Media” and have selected “Local Media Access” and have moved “Local Media Access” to the top.

ŸI’ve seen this discussed on the main forum some years ago with a user on a QNAP PMS; but I couldn’t follow how his problem may have been finally resolved(?).

ŸI have even deleted the entire album + ripped the CDs anew + double checked the MetaTags for Track Number and Track Names to include the track-equivalent number, refreshed the PMS; closed the PMS and re-opened it.
To No Avail (!).

Ÿ I’m hoping for some troubleshooting possibilities going forward. Thanks.

When you created the library, there was a setting “Use embedded tags”. Did you enable that?

(*) Where can the enabling of “Use embedded tags” be confirmed after the fact? Or, would a new library have to be launched to be certain that this option is selected?

(*) I did enable “Local Media Assets” agent and moved it to the top of the list ---- but it is unclear to me (conceptually) what this is intended to accomplish. Maybe someone could offer up a sentence or two to explain that just a bit…

the “Local Media Assets” agent is enabled under “Albums” — and I am assuming that “Albums” refers to Music files (as against Movies or Photos), right?

What is the result when I do the same thing for “Movies” > “Personal Media” ??

Thank you so much. I finally got everything straightened out.

It looks like I didn’t do a very good job of reading the PLEX articles available on the subject. But it’s still unclear which specific different things happen when editing a library and selecting “Refresh all Metadata” vs when selecting “Scan library files” vs selecting “Analyze.”

But thank you, again; you guys at “support” have been terrific!
