PMP audio

Server Version#:1.18.9.2571
Player Version#:4.31.1

So, I have noticed that I can not pass through Dolby Atmos from my TCL 55R615 to my receiver. If I play a file straight from the computer, it is fine. So, I thought maybe if I used that same PC to use Plex, I could get Atmos to work. This is not the case. Even with the only audio track being used (an Atmos enabled track), PMP will only feed a PCM 2.0 signal to the receiver, no matter what. Is Plex incapable of anything other than 2.0? I know that when I stream via Roku on the TV, it is always a two channel stream. I have the “Allow DTS-HD” box selected, and the PC itself will send Atmos audio, so I know no settings have been missed. Is Plex just really that far behind? I can’t believe that it can’t even do Pro-Logic from 20 years ago, but, seriously, it can’t. Why are we stuck with two channel audio?

Plex for Windows does not support passthough audio.

Plex Media Player does support passthrough audio.

To configure PMP for passthrough, you must be in “TV Mode,” not “Desktop Mode.”

To switch to TV Mode, click on the box with “TV” inside in upper right, near status, etc icons.

Click on your username, select Settings.

Note: When navigating TV Mode, PMP does not always respond to mouse movements/clicks. You will have to use arrow keys and enter/return for some selections.

Choose Audio.
Change Device Type to HDMI, Channels to 5.1/7.1, Device Type to appropriate detected device (receiver, TV, etc).
Select Exclusive Mode to prevent other apps from interfering when using PMP.
Pick which audio codecs you wish to passthrough.

See Plex Media Player docs for additional information.
