PMS bug: something went wrong in photo library

Windows user here, issue is still affecting me.

I’m experiencing the same issue.

I’m using a Raspberry Pi with openmediavault 6.9.16-1 (Shaitan) (Linux 6.1.21-v8+) and PMS 1.41.0.8992.

Trying to access a subfolder in a photo library with Edge 128.0.2739.79 (Official build) (64-bit) and Plex Web 4.138.0 returns the ‘something went wrong error’.

Trying to access a subfolder in a photo library with the Plex Android app from Google Play Store (10.21.0.1527) works perfectly fine. The Android app is running on a Nothing Phone 2a with Nothing OS 2.6.

Edit1: Sometimes I can get into the first subfolder but accessing a second subfolder never works.
Edit2: Tried it again after updating PMS and it didn’t work. // Got some version numbers mixed up in my post, fixed that. Also added the current PMS to my post.
Edit3: ‘Local workaround’ from annybs sadly doesn’t work either.

I created a test photo library.

In a word … :bomb:

lol

I’ll work on this and see if I can figure out where the problem is.

I have the same issue

Same problem here; I use Chrome under linux desktop and photolibrary is unusable.
This is absurd, you just released the new version of the photo app and the server for this service is down…

I am experiencing the same issue. Too bad since I wanted to test out the new photos app.

It works for me with the apps, this problem only exists with the browser

Having let my server sit overnight

  1. I saw a bunch of vti_inf files (from the web tool I used at the time). Plex/web does not like these (they don’t look like real pics)

  2. Everything else displayed in the web browser without issue.

I can only conclude, which I need ask Engineering, is if there’s something happening in the Scheduled Tasks run at night which would account for this.

Hi, I’m glad you’re taking care of it, I don’t see these files, besides my photo library is mounted in the file system as read-only so plex can’t write to it; This is a major bug, please try to fix it asap. Thanks.

I (We) have to figure out what the problem is first

To help me/us,

  1. Plex/web - Settings - Debug
  2. Enable Debug (SAVE)

Now recreate the problem (it will get captured)

  1. After it fails, Come back to Settings - Plex/Web - Debug

  2. Click the “here” button .. It will show you the Plex/web logs

  3. Capture ALL THE TEXT

  4. Put it in a text file.

  5. ZIP the file

  6. Attach here.

  7. Now go turn DEBUG off again

Hey im also glad to hear that you will work on this problem.
So i enabled the logfile for plex web on my server an reproduced the problem.
Saved, zipped and attached the logfile here.
Hope this helps.

Thank you
plexweblog.zip (4.2 KB)

Thanks for the help. Here is my logfile:
Kbot_Network Plex Web Log - Crashed at the second subfolder.zip (17.3 KB)

debug.zip (709 Bytes)
The problem occurred but there seems to be no trace of it in the log…

I provide more information:
I access Plex in the photo section, click on a folder and then on a subfolder, and I see the error ‘Something Went Wrong.’
The interesting thing is that any link stops working; if I click on Home or the Movies or Live Shows library, or any link on the left-hand bar, it won’t work. However, if I click on a button at the top right, like Settings or Activity, everything starts working again, and upon entering the photo gallery, I can also see the photos.

I agree, there is a problem but there is no trace in the logs.
I don’t get any report either.

I will try to 100% reproduce this by procedure and submit the procedure – stating nothing reports as error in the logs.

Hello, some news?

Hello some news?

I tried 2 other installations and the bug is still there, but the developers of plex don’t use it for photographs at home? Is it possible that no one who works in that company has noticed this huge problem? and above all, is it possible that no one feels the responsibility to fix it since so many people, like me, have paid for this software, we are not talking about an open source and free program?
Instead of adding a thousand useless functions with only commercial purpose why don’t you think about making what is already there work well? Believe me it would already be enough to justify the purchase of a license.

I’m sure they are trying their best to fix this bug. And what do you mean with 2018? This thing was opened in July 2024.

After a bit of browsing on this forum, it appears a lot of folks are having this problem. This link is to a post I made on the same issue. Basically, error message when viewing photo libraries containing photos/videos. I get the same message on Synology NAS (package) and Windows 11. Also, unable to play TV shows, home videos and live TV, but saved movies play. Tried editing database, uninstalling/reinstalling, and down grading versions. Problem only occurs on web client (browser). FireTV and Android phone apps work great.

Edit: Downgraded to version 1.32.8.7639, which seems to work.
