PMS don't updates proper play timing on media

Jan 28, 2018 00:47:08.484 [9380] WARN - Waited one whole second for a busy database.

Your log is full of these warnings. So it appears that the playback status, which is saved in Plex’s internal database, is trying to update but is getting delayed due to something else occupying the database. I believe this is leading to a race condition where the playback finished before the DB is updated correctly, so when the playback stops, the updates stop at the last successful entry.

Right now I’m not seeing anything in your logs to indicate what is causing the busy database.

You didn’t happen to move your database to a network drive, did you?

Have you checked your database for corruption lately? https://support.plex.tv/articles/201100678-repair-a-corrupt-database/

Try exiting PMS, then finding the database file. See if there are a DB-WAL and DB-SHM files. These are the database cache and should write themselves out to the main database when you exit PMS. If these files are still around, it’s possible there is a problem. Manually delete these and see if that helps.

I also see some references to DLNA. Do you use the DLNA server? If not, try turning that off. I’ve seen where DLNA devices can hog up a network and slow everything else down.

@MovieFan.Plex the single thing i can think of accessing database might be plexpy (is the single app that i have connected to PMS, yes is did last week for corruption as per instructions, and no database i moved the i changed the machine that i use as server, the single thing changed is that the machine has usb3.0, old one had 2.0, and about DLNA i saw no difference and i always played from my external HDD (my media is located there)

@MovieFan.Plex , i can confirm that if close PMS .library.db-shm / .library.db-wal they dissapear

and the database is stored on primary hard drive C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases , and database was from the download from Server>help> downland database button
however i see no specific tutorial on how to restore database if you change your server

also it is possible having that problem because my device is running over wi-fi ? i noticed that sometimes i get connection error ? but i don’t see why since in on local and the device is close to the router and i never had problems with old machine

There is nothing specific to restore a database. Just copy the file from the old server to the new one.

I don’t think it’s a WiFi problem, but it’s possible. If you can, try connecting a wire just to test.

Just confirming, this only happens when using the Samsung TV? Have you tried other Plex clients.

@MovieFan.Plex from what i saw yes and only on Samsung TV and only on tV shows (family members that they use my server they say that they don’t see any problems at there end), even with older version of PMS and side-loaded app for samsung does the same, so i am not sure what is going on, if is OS related or not, before i changed the server was same Win 10 OS , same USB 3.0 HDD, same tv playing over Wi-Fi, single difference was that older PC had a Core 2 Duo , 8 GB ram, and USB 2.0 and this one has i5 2 cores , 8 GB ram and all ports are uSB 3.0

if you think that verbose log will give more information i will put some, maybe you see what is wrong

but i noticed something, when i have this problem and i restart the server problem is not fixed, but if i shut it down and power back again sometimes is working fine for few days maybe a month and sometimes the problem persists, i did full virus scan, HDD optimisation, so i do not explain, why only on TV shows.

i will change OS to win 7 if i will have problems again to see how performs

i understand that, but do i go through PMS wizard setup when i first install ? or i just quit after installation and copy the database and after that i continue with PMS wizard setup ?

I would suggest you go through the install/setup and first run page. Once Plex is completely setup and running exit Plex then copy database over. But I could be wrong…

Either way is fine. I personally also copy over the registry so it will be treated as the exact same server. So for me, I install, don’t launch, copy over old DB and registry, launch PMS manually. Done.

That makes both of us. Since the Samsung app is written by someone else, it may be doing somethings a little differently than other Plex clients. This kind of points to the app being the culprit, so I’ll go bounce some ideas off the developer and see if he has any ideas.

That’s convenient.

what is strage is that even with older version for Samsung and older server, when i did the test i had same problems and i did not used to have before, i driving me nuts

It could also be something with your new server setup that wasn’t there before that is only now affecting the app.

Have you checked that you are not running an anti-virus or backup program that is monitoring the Plex Appdata folder?

i just want to confirm, same problem is over wired, and yesterday was fine today is not single difference for today was that i start tautulli (former plexpy), i will install win 7 tomorrow to see if problem persists

single antivirus is the windows one, and i only have Radarr/Sonarr and jacket (but this problems was before i installed those) and all media is on external HDD, so beside plex schedule task there is no backup,

Oh, and another difference was that on older machine was a different win 10 build and on the new server is the newest win 10 os build

That can do it. Please add the Plex App Data folder to the exclusion list so it doesn’t scan.

It’s not the location of the media. It’s the location of the database file that is important.

Some update, @MovieFan.Plex
so after my last post i changed OS to win 7, all worked fine until last night when same problem appear again, same settings in PMS, same settings on subzero plugin, however yesterday before i start watching i tweak with agents so i can make trailers work (i do not understand why i have to tweak the agents in order for trailers to work, is Include Cinema Trailers from new and upcoming movies in theaters not enought? seriously i have to tweak agents to ? ) and finally i enabled subzero plugin, before that that plugin was installed but not enabled and i noticed that plugin when searching for subtitles is refresing metadata, is this possible that this plugin or agents to be the cause of the problem ? here some logs, problem appear around 1:20-1:26 am and by the way now i cant make trailers to work before the movie starts, i am playing with arranging agents for a hour and still not working, does plex pass suppose to work like ? this because at this moment i don’t benefit from plex pass

turn out that sub-zero plugin is not the problem, since is on a different OS now i think that this might be a PMS bug or the plex TV player

I’m still seeing the errors about the database being busy.

yes, i saw that to, i get back to win 10 today and i will enable debug and when happen again i will post

new logs with same problem @MovieFan.Plex , i hope that this logs will give you more information because debug is enabled
time of the problem appear 10:20 pm -11:32 pm-11:37pm
