So I’ve very recently installed Plex and PMS, first two days it worked fine but I noticed today that PMS will not open when I try to launch it. Plex works fine, but PMS does not. I’ve tried re-installing but that does not seem to do anything.
Did some googling and noticed that there were more posts on this forum about this exact issue. However, most of the solutions are related to a RegEdit path (LocalAppData) which needs a small modification, but I do not even have this path in my Registry when I locate Plex Media Server.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Are you expecting the web app to open when you launch “Plex Server” from your start menu? Because it won’t do that.
And the tray icon for plex server may get hidden by Windows, behind the upward chevron:

The web app is not what I expect, as this is not what I have got the previous times I’ve opened PMS
It would open the actual app, something like on the screenshot provided (not mine, from a random youtube video). Basically to add my own media to the Plex app.
But since today, this simply does not launch anymore.
When I right-click on the tray icon you mentioned, I am only able to launch the Plex web app.
The web app is what is used to administrate the server.
Are you saying that the ‘server’ options are missing from it?
I’m not entirely sure (I’m really not great with all this stuff to be perfectly honest).

I guess I do not have the option to ‘add media from my own device’ - in order to watch it on a different device which also has the Plex app installed - which I did have the previous times. The seperate app ‘Plex Media Server’ simply does not do anything when I try to launch it.

I’ve just checked the web app via the tray icon you indicated before, and through this I am also perfectly able to add my own media I’m pretty sure, it’s just in a different way than before.
Still, the PMS app does not launch, but this might not even be an issue now.
I think this is solved then (I don’t think there even was a problem to begin with)

The “PMS app” is only the task tray icon. You operate it solely through the web app.

I might have been extremely confused then, as I did not realise I was operating on the web app, thought it was a separate app (not browser-based) when I opened it before.
