I do not know how long this issue has existed as it only effects one of my libraries, but today I noticed that TV show episodes with no “official” metadata no longer play on any device. To give context, I have 20+ libraries and the one I have for anime uses the TvDB agent. TvDB sets specials as Season 0, but doesn’t typically include metadata for No Credits opening and ending themes. Regardless, I enjoy having these viewable in the series so my method is to rename the file to include S00E## (## are chosen numbers that don’t already have metadata) and then manually enter the metadata within Plex.
I have used this method for the past 5 years with no issue, but today as I was adding some new series, I decided to check playback as I was editing the metadata and realized the file is not played. Instead it plays Season 1 Episode 1. I then checked about 80+ other such files in different series and the same issue occurs: press play on i.e. S00E22 but S01E01 plays. Checked this on the Web Player, iOS player, Apple TV player, LG webOS player, PS4 player, and the server itself. Checked several different series on each player although many more are affected. So pretty sure it’s a server-side issue. And yes, I did check all files to confirm they are pointing to the correct directory and file, which they are. Even the playback data on each displays the right resolution, tracks, runtime, etc. but when trying to play, starts up Season 1 Episode 1 of associated series every time. Other specials with “official” metadata from TvDB play fine, only those with no metadata/metadata input manually are affected.
I have tried to resolve this by removing a series, rescan library, empty trash, clean bundles, quit server, reboot server, rescan, but the issue persists. And it has effected all files with such conditions, some that have worked for years prior, not only recently added ones. As I said at the top, I do not know how long this has occurred, but the last time I am aware of it working as intended was about 50 days ago. I would very much rather not do a clean install as this server holds about 60TB of media with 20+ libraries spanning 100s of directories and 8 users worth of play history. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated!
