Hi there,
after a power outage due to a faulty UPS I have same issue as this one:
Hi ChuckPa,
here is the log you requested.
Logs.zip (110.0 KB)
Additionally the current Plex process status from the shell:
[~] #
[~] # ps -ef | grep Plex
15947 admin 60860 S ./Plex Media Server
15967 admin 48404 S N Plex Plug-in [com.plexapp.system] /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/Resources/Plug-ins-6de959918/Framework.bundle/Contents/Resources/Versions/2/Python/bootstrap.py --server-version 1.12.0.4829-6de959918 /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/Resources/…
I tried everything, I have a blank Preferences.xml file and no access trough HTTPS but HTTP only and I cannot find the Server istance on my QNAP NAS.
I did a NAS Reset already, tried to uninstall and reinstall it, Plex update to latest release with no luck. I’m always getting a 401 Unauthorized error.
I dunno what to do, can someone help me out?
thanks in advance

If you uninstalled PMS, then your previous PMS installation is gone.
QNAP deletes an app’s data when uninstalling.
I have new scripting to prevent this but it’s not quite ready for general use.
I am almost ready for a Forum Preview of it.
PMS and Plex/web are not tied to each other. Most don’t realize that even if the web page loads from the server , it’s not tied to it.
Your new installation is waiting out there. Plex/Web can’t find it yet because it’s still looking for the old one. This message tells us
“message”: “[Servers] Waiting for initial servers = [Bundled], plex.tv”,
Let’s first remove the old server entry at Plex.tv
Settings - Authorized Devices (upper left corner) - Servers (the drop down)
Now sign out of Plex/Web (upper right corner in the Avatar)
Close the browser
Open the browser again
Open an incognito window
Go to http://ip.addr.of.qnap:32400/web
You should find your new server installation sitting there waiting for you.
Hi there, thanks for your answer.
Unfortunately I don’t have the old server remove option so I cannot remove it otherwise I would have already done it.
There’s anything else I can do? Thanks again
Yes…
Open https://app.plex.tv
This will bring you to the Plex-hosted desktop.
From there, you can perform the same action to remove the old server definition.
Now you can proceed with the reinstallation.
Hi, unfortunately is not like that, maybe because i delete the old Plex account and create a completely new one?
By the way there’s no way for me to find the new Plex server on my NAS as per screenshot attached. What else I can do here? Thank you.
Did you delete your main Plex account? (the account you used to sign into the server last)
If this account has been deleted, we will need to start over.
Please describe for me the basic steps you’ve done to get you to this point.
I am attempting to understand where you are at so I may then help you proceed forward.
I don’t know what point you’re at.
You deleted your main Plex account ?
If you have then the account which the NAS is using will never allow you to access it.
I am confused. Perhaps you can write in Italian and I will use google translate ?
Yep I deleted the main old account and created a new one but still the Plex Server installed on my NAS isn’t recognised. I tried everything you wrote without any luck.
This is what I get if I try the steps above:
No soup for you!
The server you’re trying to access doesn’t want to let you in. Make sure you’re signed in as a user with access to this server.
What is the IP address of your computer and what is the IP address of the QNAP?
Are both on the same IPv4 subnet?
You are using http://ip.addr.of.qnap:32400/web
to access it?
Yep, but there’s now ay to see it. Do you want a Team Viewer session to check yourself?
Hi there,
this is what my preferences.xml file contain:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
From which folder I should get the preferences.xml file?
Follow the tree. (My top folder is PlexData
. Yours will says PMSLib
)
Look on the right side here. ^^
Preferences.xml
I don’t have that folder on mu file station I’m sorry, I have to access the NAS via SFTP to access the hidden folders but my preferences.xml file is empty
Hi, how I can fix this issue then? Thank you.
I"m sorry, I didn’t see this until now.
Preferences.xml should never be empty.
If it’s empty (zero length) then
Stop PMS.
Start it
let run for 2 minutes
Stop PMS
now check the lenght
When PMS 1.19.5 is released, you will hae the PlexData
shared folder.
Until then (about 2 weeks until it becomes public release),
system
