Server Version#: 1.32.8.7639 Windows & Synology NAS
Player Version#: Pexamp Android 4.9.5
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>
I’m experiencing something odd. I’m running two separate servers - one on Windows, the other on Synology NAS. I use Plexamp on Android.
Both of my servers have been saying “not available outside your network” in the remote access section of the settings, when, in fact, both servers are accessible over a 4G/5G mobile connection. The message appeared yesterday and I could find nothing wrong. Reboots of devices did nothing. And subsequent checks of firewalls, static IPs, port forwarding settings all look good. I can click retry and it will go green briefly, but then back to saying not available. The same on both servers.
The oddest thing, though, is that I have been out about town today and have had access to both servers using Plexamp on my phone. I cleared the cache, just to be sure it wasn’t playing on reserves, and I can watch as it loads back into the player.
Can anybody tell me what’s going on? I’m not as upset with this as I would be with the opposite issue, because at least with this I do have remote access. It’s just a little upsetting, that’s all. And I hope it’s not fortelling of a bigger issue on the horizon. TIA if you can shed light on this
@mr_reamer I appreciate your response, but I don’t think that’s my issue. I have static IPs and port forwarding set up in my router for both servers. There is no reason that my stream would need to be relayed. Plus I am not getting messages about limited bit rates. Also, I’m having no issue streaming on my LAN. Synology server is on Ethernet, Windows is on Wifi and phone on wifi or on 4g/5g. No issues streaming. All the while both servers say no remote connection
That is nearly impossible, because I don’t know any single mobile network provider which provides its users with publicly accessible IPv4 adresses. And that is crucial for remote access with Plex.
All mobile network operators that I know of are using something called carrier-grade-NAT, which puts the customer into a double NAT situation, when using a router to provide this internet connection to a private network.
And there is no way to cross this NAT barrier, except by using some kind of relay connection. Either the one which is built into Plex (which should be fine for most “music” uses), or by using something like a proxy or certain VPN services.
I went through most of the list of possible conflicts in regard to port forwarding and did what was suggested in an attempt to determine if I was in double NAT and to the best of my recollection I did not see any evidence to suggest that I am.
I have, however, discovered that the port forwarding I set up in my router was not successful and I also confirmed that my stream was in fact being relayed for remote access to at least one of my servers.
I’m going to get back to the remote access issue in the near future, but right now I’m working to get a clean migration of my original server on Windows to my Synology NAS. Once I’m satisfied with the migration, or after I decide to throw in the towel and start fresh on the new server, I plan to delete the old server from my laptop and my remote access issue will be trimmed in half.
Check out my other active post.
@tom80H has been assisting me with the migration, but maybe you can give a little insight
I am having this exact issue currently. Does anyone have a fix. I am currently leaning towards an issue with my router. I don’t believe I have a double nat as my ISP sent a rep to my house and he said I do not.
I thoroughly tried all the remote access troubleshooting but my Asustor NAS with Xfinity router would only allow PMS to use the backup relay service (low bandwidth).
I tried manual port assignments in PMS and port forwarding setups in both NAS and Router in separate attempts… nothing seemed to allow PMS to stay remote accessdible. Tried a wide range of PORT IDs but couldn’t find any blockage.
It may be a unique combination of my hardware and built-in firewalls…but landing on this setting has yielded remote access stability for several weeks now.
Port forwarding in Routrer = none
Port forwading in NAS = none.
No blacklisted IPs in firewall.
Plex PMS = Manually specify port = 32400.
Private IP = 192.168.1.200:32400
Public IP = xx.xx.xx.xx:32400
I’m not sure why this specific port seems to have unique handling in my setup but it unexpectedly works.
