Server Version#:1.29.2.6364-7000/1.41.0.8992-8463
Synology Version#:DSM 7.2.1_69057 - Update 5
Hello everyone !
I’m having some trouble with my plex server for two days now as it is just shut down and it’s not possible to make it work again for an unknown reason. I didn’t updated my version wether of PMS or my Synology, I didn’t updated a new media whatsoever since a week or so. It just stopped and whenever I want to restart PMS on my NAS it start booting, and then stops immediatly. I would share you the error logs, but they don’t show up in the folders. However, a new folder is created in te crash reports whenever it happens.
As of right now, the things I did was to re-install the newest version of PMS on my NAS. And then I uninstalled it (without deleteing any folders, or metadata) to install the one available via the Synology package center wich is the 1.29… but it didn’t work either. So I don’t really know what do right now, but asking for help.
I would be thankfull to anyone that can help me please.
Yes, the last time I could use Plex, was this friday, so 13-Sep. For the Synology, my version is still the DSM 7.2.1_69057 - Update 5, so that’s why i didn’t downloaded, the newer 7.2.2 one. and well… I can’t really tell what changed since then… Except that for a totally unknown reason I had to restart my NAS on 13-Sep, because every single app weren’t working anymore. though, when I restarted the NAS, everything (except Plex) was working fine.
Would it be possible for you to ssh ( enable it in “Control Panel → Terminal & SNMP)”
Putty/ssh into the Syno (the pasword will not echo anything so be careful)
then type df -h at the prompt
It will look something like this:

What I’m looking for is one of your partitions (volumes) to be 100% full.
100% full would stop Plex from starting.
For the follow up, I finally did installed the last DSM update from the Synology website for my NAS, and then installed the PMS build specifically for the 7.2.2 Syno NASes. It was installed, but still stops whenever I want to launch it. I’m currently migrating some files from my volume 2, which is the one that is at 99% of use, to an external drive. Surely this is part of the problem, though, until last time, Plex was working fine with my volume at 97-98% of use…
I have the same issue. I’ve not managed to update PMS since version
PlexMediaServer-1.40.2.8395-c67dce28e-x86_64_DSM7.spk
this was the last working version for me.
So today I updated my Synology manually to version 7.2.2-72806
I then installed the dsm72 version
PlexMediaServer-1.41.0.8992-8463ad060-x86_64_DSM72.spk
and I end up with the same issue.
It Runs, but very soon after stops.
I have just done the df -h (via task schedular love that btw)
They have a weird environment and for as flexible as we are (we bring our own runtime kernel library), it will not work with virtual DSM.
– which is the main reason PMS doesn’t get updated in Package Center automatically when we release
I’m not sure to follow you about the virtual DSM installation… I do have the container app… which I don’t use anymore, with no image or container running. I also have the Virtual Machine app, but also, I don’t use it anymore since a while now… DSM is not installed as a VM also, but as is on my Synology machine. Though, because I had less memory recently, I did have an error message about the virtual machine that couldn’t launch correctly because I hadn’t enough memory space, could it be the issue ? What could I do to fix it ?
Edit : Ok so I checked my VMs, and DSM is indeed running as a VM… Wich Is a setup I never did by myself… What could I do ?
Immediately after you do, if using the native Plex app, look for the Plex (DSM 6) or PlexMediaServer (DSM 7) shared folder. If they exist, and have contents underneath the ‘Plex Media Server’ folder, then you can simply install the native Plex app and it will start working
If for some reason it doesn’t , Use FileStation to dive in under Plex Media Server and make a ZIP (right click ‘Logs’ → ‘Compress to Logs.zip’),
Download it
then upload here
Do I have to setup this new server or is there a way to get back the old metadata ? If not, it’s not a big deal, just wondering. Also, by curiosity, can you exeplain to me what was the problem ? As I could maybe avoid doing some mistakes in the future.
Well I’m stuck with the Task Scheduler at step 4. I did it as previously for the df -h task but following each step of your guide (with the root user, etc…). Unfortunatly I don’t receive the email with the result… Actually I don’t think it is sent at all. I checked the value I typed in the form, and it’s my valid email. Is there a way to make the command from your guide work by SSH maybe ?
