Server Version#: 1.21.4.4079 (smb)
Player Version#: 8.13.2.23227
I was attempting to play an 8-bit HDR video yesterday, which I’ve had no problem with in the (recent, at least) past, and it would not play. The server said it was running, but operated as though it wasn’t (not playing anything). In the past, when this has happened, I did a restart on the NVIDIA Shield. When it booted back up, the PMS was off and now will not turn back on.
I have the server and all my metadata on an external harddrive, but I’ve never successfully been able to delete/reinstall the server and put the old metadata back in. The thought of having to start from scratch on a library of well over 10TB makes me physically ill. What other options are there? On another thread, the suggestion was made to access the server over the local network and a fix was made by switching the server out of standby mode. I’m able to access :32500/logging over the local network, but when I go to :32400/web, it says that the network in unavailable.
Now (of course) it’s refusing to connect to logging too.
I downloaded logs the day before this happened, but it’s verbose logging. Is there a particular logging file which would be most useful? I have the database from the day before as well.
I have the Plex logs I downloaded the day before the PMS stopped working. Would those be useful? If so, what parts do you need (there’s a lot in the file folder).
I’ve tried every suggestion (short of deleting the server and starting over) on here and on r/PleX. One suggestion was to format the external drive where Plex data is currently stored to internal. Wouldn’t this erase the drive? The whole thing I’m trying to do here is not have to again start from scratch with my metadata. I have a 12TB library with a lot of custom artwork and descriptions and collections and losing all that would be… maddening.
The logs from before the crash will probably not show the actual issue (unless it’s been creeping up over some time, in which case you should have seen some symptoms before).
You can manually locate and download the logs of the Plex Media Server from your Shield following the instructions in this support article:
The SHIELD is refusing to connect. It shows up as read-only in my local network. I’ve turned off VPN, anti-virus, firewall, anything I can think of which would presumably get in the way. I’ve been able to access it in the past. I don’t know what’s going on. Transfer files over local network is on. I’ve restarted both the SHIELD and my desktop…
I can’t. Same issue. I can see the SHIELD, but I can’t access it. I tried NVIDIA support and their advice was to reboot my router. That had no effect.
I guess my next question (since I know this is going to require a reboot of the SHIELD) is how, please how, can I save my metadata in Plex? The last two times I had to do this, I followed the instructions for migrating a PMS, but when I tried to put my old data back in, I ended up with the same problem, the Plex Media Server unable to start. It took me literally months after the last crash to get my libraries back to what they were before. I really do not want to have to do this again.
Sorry. I don’t have any particular input beyond the procedures you’re referring to. I’d restoring is causing you such issues this implies there might be something wrong with the database / configuration.
Generally speaking: if you need to do a restore… the more strict you’ve been following the naming schemas suggested by Plex the smoother this should go.
After tracking down a male-to-male USB cord (not an easy task these days), I was finally able to access the Plex logs directly from the SHIELD! What specific files should I post?
