PMS suddenly shows issues with remote access 9/30/2021 10AM EST

PMS shows fully accessible outside your network but Plex app v. 5.25.2 still does not allow secure connections on LG WebOS v5.

Same here. LG TV with webOS 5.10.25 and still does not work. I restarted the server, the TV, reinstalled application (Plex app version 5.25.2), relinked it, but still nope…

I’m using OpenPHT on macOS, which is apparently a part of the RasPlex distribution, it is using the old OpenSSL 1.0.2 version and ships a cacert.pem bundle file, which contains the expired Let’s Encrypt X3 certificate.

Replacing the cacert.pem file from #645 (comment)
in /Applications/OpenPHT.app/Contents/Resources/XBMC/system/cacert.pem

did not help.

But replacing it with the one linked at https://www.reddit.com/r/usenet/comments/pyo27t/ndngd_lets_encrypt_root_certificate_expiration/hevvwol/
helped.

Maybe it helps others with RasPlex / OpenPHT as well.

Desktop OpenPHT clients can just have their cacert.pem files replaced.

You might also need to regenerate your Server cached cert-v2 file, as described at PMS suddenly shows issues with remote access 9/30/2021 10AM EST - #147 by BigWheel

@Tarbatlane @burgatshow @Vito1010 can you try this to manually regenerate the certificate

  1. Browse to the Plex Media Server data directory on your server
  2. Open the Cache folder
  3. Delete cert-v2.p12
  4. Restart Plex Media Server

Will check Firestick in a few.

You can try what @Placinta posted a few posts up for OpenPHT but we don’t make that app and I am not familiar with it’s secure connection settings.

Thank you, this helped me much to fix my rasplex installation:

@BigWheel I am running an old iOS version (5.14) with no option to allow insecure connections. I’ve tried deleting cert-v2.p12 but still nothing. Is there any hope?

@LennySands What version of iOS is on that device or which model iPhone/iPad? Is your servers secure connection setting set to preferred? You can try adding the local IP of your server computer in the Manual Server connection settings.

It’s on iOS 9.3 server settings is set on preferred and I’ve added the server ip manually but still nothing :frowning:

OpenPHT is now working. I had to replace the cacert.pem in OpenPHT directory. Last I checked Firestick was not, but I will see later this evening.

Thats me!!!

Ill get my father, his friend and my mother in law to try setting the allow insecure settings back. but its doubful it will work based on the emails people with LG WebOS TV’s got…ill try and reply back tomorrow

iOS 9.3??? whoa a relic from the past! im surprised the device you have still works, thats about 6 years old, ancient by phone standards.

on the Plex app for the TV go to settings, advanced and under allow insecure connections set it to always…back out and try again

Nope, deleting cert-v2.p12 and restarting PMS did not work.

@BigWheel Whenever a Family member trying to Remote Stream from my Server using her
Samsung Smart TV Model 2019 Running Tizen
she’s getting the Playback error
this error started only 2 days ago

Are there any risks in using unsecured connections?

I would not suggest using the unsecured connection, in local LAN risk is smaller but remotely its unimaginable.

How is this still a problem! Still can’t access with any device, except navigating directly to my server using its local LAN IP.

Plex, Management, THIS IS NOT RESOLVED. This is how reputation, market share, trust, is won or lost.
