I have searched the forums and found several similar topics in recent months but none of the resolutions for those issues seem to work for me. I recently had to switch my server from a simple Odroid XU4 running DietPi to a 4-core i3 system running Ubuntu 18.04. My WinTV DualHD tuner worked fine and was detected by PMS up until the day the Odroid quit on me. I then made the switch to the full sized machine running Ubuntu and Docker. With this setup, PMS cannot locate my tuner, I get stuck with a spinning circle at the initial DVR setup screen. Things I have tried: 1. I initially attempted to repair the database as suggested in the Plex support articles. 2. I have downloaded the Kaffeine TV application from the Hauppauge website and it locates the tuner and tunes all available channels so I can verify that the tuner still works. 3. I have rolled back my version of PMS by a few versions and attempted to set up the DVR. 4. I have stopped, started, and restarted the PMS service many times. 5. I have unplugged the tuner dongle and replugged it in every usb port available. I am at a loss here. Does anyone here have any suggestions. My next option is to purchase another tuner and I don’t think that is the problem. Thanks for any help.
What does a uname -a give you? Should be something like this:
Linux alpha 4.15.0-50201905291620-generic #0+mediatree+hauppauge-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 29 21:32:51 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
You have to have the right kernel installed to start. Can also install the dvb-apps package to get scan which allows you find all your channels
https://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Scan
These need to work before you attempt an integration into PMS.
uname -a returns Linux plex-hp 4.15.0-55201908151420-generic #0+mediatree+hauppauge-Ubuntu SMP Thu Aug 15 22:19:57 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I’ve installed dvb-apps, as well.
ok cool. So stop plexmediaserver (sudo service plexmediaserver stop) and then run w_scan. It should find you tuner card and scan all frequencies to see what your antenna can see. I don’t know what market you are in, so you might need to fiddle with the command line parameters. If that works then a start of plex should give you what you need. I personally don’t direct connect to the card in plex, I go through tvheadend via tvhproxy, but it should work.
OK, thank you! I stopped plex server and ran w_scan -c US and got:
jim@plex-hp:~/docker$ w_scan -c US

I restarted the Plex service and then still got the same results. The spinning wheel of doom. I think I will give the proxy connection a shot and see if that works. I really appreciate your help.
Awesome. Welcome. I really like the tvheadend + tvhproxy integration. Its been real stable for me. Happy to help you there too. PM me if you need help.
