I’ve never been able to get PMS to successfully attach a content rating to any tv shows or movies unless I select the “fix match” in the dropdown for the content and reselect the item. The issue is that for my kids, none of their items are showing up unless I manually update their content rating.
Any advise / help in troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.
Any ideas from the community? Why would fix match resolve the content rating but the normal scanner will not attach a content rating? Anyone else have this issue?
I’m currently not using the DVR but I understand that DVR sourced content uses a different metadata source because of the possibility of broadcasters to change the episode order, skip episodes, and amongst other things it’s possible for a broadcaster to use a different content rating from what the makers intended. By fixing the match, you’ll be falling back to the default show info and not the broadcaster’s metadata source
They have a managed account and the main issue is when they record a new show, they can’t see it afterwards because of the content rating missing. I basically have to manually review all new shows, fix match to pull the content rating, and then they can watch it. Pretty well defeats the purpose of having content ratings.
We do expect EPG metadata to be preserved and do not recommend any matching to be done - because the EPG metadata and none DVR sourced items have different sets of metadata
If you give me a specific set of examples I can look into the detail
A zip code / lineup name
A forthcoming airing - so channel number/name
TV show/episode/airtime
We do not have the content rating for airings
I need to establish if that information is available in the EPG metadata from gracenote
Zip Code - 19382
Forthcoming airing: The Bachelor - Tuesday March 14, 2023 at 8:00PM on 6.1 WPVIDT (ABC), S27·E9—The Women Tell All
Right now this show is showing as no content rating but if I click on fix match, the content rating will appear like it does for the other shows that I go through this process. Here is a before screenshot:
Thank you. I have looked into it and can see the ratings are no longer being returned to Plex Media Server. I have referred it to our EPG Gracenote data ingestion team
Thank you. I do see the content ratings, however, this appears to have resulted in a different issue. I couldn’t figure out why with the content ratings in place my kids still couldn’t see recorded content.
For content rating classification, PMS looks for a dash between the TV14, e.g. “TV-G”, “TV-Y7”, TV-PG”, etc which Gracenote isn’t providing. Unless it’s an exact match, it defaults to not being viewable. What’s interesting is that the fix match adds the dash “-“ but Gracenote is not.
Could we have PMS intelligent to recognize with or without the dash? I think that would solve the problem.
Thank you for highlighting this. The discrepancy appears to have been in place all the time - even before we lost the content ratings
I am discussing this with the ingestion team. I presume you can create custom filters / labels for your Plex Home managed users whilst this issue remains
For now, what I’ve done is used the exclude certain ratings. Unfortunately, if they record something new that is TVMA or TV14 (instead of TV-MA or TV-14), it will allow them to watch it. Hopefully, once this is resolved, I can go back to relying on including only certain ratings.
