I’ve downloaded the latest version of PMS, but for some reason it wont move past the splash screen (Plex logo in the centre, no other menus visible) when it opens as a tab in Google Chrome.
The app itself seems to be running, as it sits in the menu bar at the top. If I click ‘Open Plex’ or ‘Preferences’ though, it launches the tab in Chrome and then wont move past the splash screen.
I’m running:
Mac OS Catalina 10.15.5
PMS Server 1.19.4.2902-69560ce1e
Google Chrome 83.0.4103.97
I’ve used Plex in the past, but I’ve since formatted and reinstalled the OS. I’ve not used PMS or the Player since the format, nor installed it.
The Plex Media Server doesn’t have a native UI of its own.
It’ll run and show in the menu bar… to access / manage your server you need to run its web interface.
Can you manually open http://127.0.0.1:32400/web or http://localhost:32400/web from that same Mac using either your Chrome or Safari? Those addresses both open the locally installed version of “Plex Web” that’s part of your PMS. Alternatively you can try http://app.plex.tv/desktop – which opens the hosted version of “Plex Web”.
I managed to access the UI through Safari (using the URL you provided, and that I found in other posts), which in turn let me go through the server setup process and get everything running normally.
However, it still won’t open the UI in chrome for some reason. It only loads the splash screen and won’t move on from there.
I’m assuming it’s an issue with Chrome as PMS runs as it should. Any ideas?
You could disable all plug-ins / add-ons in Chrome to verify if any of those might interfere with Plex. If Plex opens up fine without your add-ons you could re-enable them one by one to confirm which one is causing this.
