Podcast sync is incorrectly downloading played episodes

I have about 10 podcasts I subscribe too, most of which I’ve completely played. My goal is to set up Plex so that my phone syncs the next unplayed episodes for each podcast. So I tried out plex podcasts, and here’s what I did:

  • added one of my podcasts to Plex by mobile
  • mark all as played
  • unmark as played the last couple of episodes I haven’t listened to yet
  • hit the sync button and set it to download the Next 3 Unplayed episodes
  • wait for sync

and what happened is that it synced the very first three episodes of the podcast – even though they were already played.

Weirdly, if I went into Download & Sync → Podcasts → pick any of those first three episodes it downloaded – it showed as unplayed (remember, I marked those as played).

But if I go form Podcasts → My Podcasts → that podcast → See All, I can easily see that it’s played. Also confirmed it’s played through the web app Podcast view.

This happened with a couple of podcasts I tested with.

What is going on here?

I saw a lot of other posts related to sync – all closed now — so I’m bringing this back up because it’s the biggest problem keeping me from using plex.

It’s been a week with no response, and I don’t know the bumping policy so I’m gonna do it anyway. Could you offer some help here? Is it something I did? Is there something broken here? I’d love to use plex for podcasts, but this is issue makes that impossible.
