Popular Tracks broken

Running windows server version 1.29.0.6219 (64-bit). If I have an artist with just one greatest hits album and nothing else I get no popular tracks for that artist. In general popular tracks only seem to populate from items marked as “Album” in release type. Compilations, eps, etc are ignored. If this is by design it doesn’t make much sense.

Pretty sure it’s by design.

Think it’s so duplicates don’t appear in that popular track view but I’m open to correction on that. Before I grouped albums by release type I ended up with loads of duplicates as everything was under just album release type.

I’m thinking to changing the release type of compilations where no album type exist just to workaround this.

You are right. Tried ungrouping my albums and refreshing metadata and the popular tracks populated for my artist with just a greatest hits album. It also screwed up popular tracks for other artists with live albums (live track instead of album track, dups, etc.). Turning grouping back on removed popular tracks for the original artist again.

That’s correct.

What you could do for cases like this is change the Release Type tag from album; compilation to album using MusicBrainz Picard and then plex dance (or refresh metadata) the album.

This should allow you to leave grouping enabled but for artists you only have compilations, plex will then place them into the album category, giving you popular tracks.

Not a major deal. Would be nice if the logic was smart enough to say “if no albums then check compilations”. What better place to get popular tracks than a Greatest Hits album right?
