Poster Cropped

Server Version#: 1.21.3.4014
Player Version#: 1.29.0.1885-67668ec3

I get cropped poster images when adding a movie that is NOT matched. If I match the movie and add the exact same poser, it looks just fine.

I have included a screenshot of what it looks like, and included an exact copy of the image that gets cropped. Although, I have seen this happen several times, so I doubt it really depends on the poser its self. It also seems fine on my Apple TV, so guessing it is not a server issue.

Is this video not matched (e.g. only using embedded metadata) or manually set to the personal media agent?

Good question!

Its manually entered. No embedded metadata.

Same here. I have a concert that I downloaded from Youtube and I couldn’t get the cover to work since this event doesn’t exist on any metadata website.

Here’s a workaround:

  1. Match Swan Lake with something else;
  2. Change the cover to the correct one;
  3. Unmatch it.

If you are using the older Plex Movie (legacy) or TMDB agents when you unmatch something it starts to use personal movie agent which treats the item like it was in an ā€œother videosā€ library. which are meant for home movies with no posters and horizontal.

I think this is an app issue as well since it does not happen in all (it does happen on recommended screen of Android as well.)

I’m making a bug report though I am wondering if there is anything holding you back from Upgrading Matching to use the new Plex Movie agent.

These are the agents of my Concerts and Movies libraries. I believe it’s correct since a upgraded it long time ago.

I also think it’s a bug because by default you can’t set a cover properly, but if you follow the steps above you can trick Plex to do the right thing.

What is the GUID of the item with the issue. Get Info then View XML then in the xml you will see something like

guid="com.plexapp.agents.none://3a12cb31aa0fb175815116a106af39be25ae4444?lang=xn"

That’s the one I got unmatched to fix the cover:
guid="tv.plex.agents.none://60551" type="movie" title="Gusttavo Lima - Buteco em Casa"

That’s another one successfully matched in the same library:
guid="plex://movie/5d776fa8fb0d55001f5e27b9" type="movie" title="Lynyrd Skynyrd: Pronounced ’Lěh-’nĆ©rd ’Skin-’nĆ©rd & Second Helping""

I’m giving you two examples because I don’t know what this data tells you.

so both those currently have a cropped poster?

guid=ā€œcom.plexapp.agents.none://f8919672dc0a94fdaf55938019c43ea7e3cfb04e?lang=xnā€

This one has a cropped image. There are others as well, if you would like more info from them. I also attached a screenshot of my library settings.

No, only the first one had.

It’s one of those lives singers have been doing on Youtube. I downloaded it and add to my concert library (movie type).
Plex cant find metadata for it because it doesn’t exist. So I added a personalized poster that was being cropped like that:

But then, following the steps I posted here I was able to get the same poster the be shown properly

Example:

I really do hope that’s NOT the work-around that’s in our future - when we have the occasional ā€˜No Match Possible’ item and come against Plex’s Forced Landscape Artwork Nightmare…

If it is - thanks for finding it.
Seems like a PITA to me, but… wuduyagonnado?

To be clear I am not suggesting it isn’t a bug. This is just the first time I have come across it with the new agent so wanted to be sure since i can’t reproduce yet.

I also wanted to ask if you are using the local (IP:32400/web) or hosted (app.plex.tv) Do both have the same issue?

Local

I have been using the Plex app, but I just logged into the online Plex interface, and the issue is also present.
