Posters are downloading but not being used by default

Version 1.2.0.3167, Ubuntu 64 bit

Posters are downloading and available if I click on edit:

However, by default, they aren’t being used. It just shows up as grey/black default boxes:

So, does the photo show up after you select one or does it stay blank?

Check the XML for one of those that is still blank. Find the portion that says thumb=. There should be a URL you can copy into a browser window. Does the poster show up? If yes, then it looks like the routine to generate the smaller thumb may not be working. If nothing shows, then it’s not linking properly to the posters that got downloaded. If so, can you Plex dance one of these movies then provide me the entire PMS log package.

When I select one manually it keeps what I select.

Yes, it has text, but no, it doesn’t show up if I paste into the browser window. However, I just tried pasting a working one into the browser and it didn’t work either, so maybe I’m not doing that step correctly.

Plex Dance on “Jason Bourne”, PMS log attached.

Ok, guid="local://3214" tells me that the show did not get matched by PMS. So it’s not downloading metadata. I’m not sure where the photos you are seeing are coming from. Maybe they are embedded in the file. I don’t know if PMS will automatically select those for the default.

Your library does point to /media/hdd/plex/Heather/TV/, correct?

Yes, /media/hdd/plex/Heather/TV/ is correct.

Maybe a movie would have been a better example because usually the TV shows just generate off a random scene in the episode instead of downloading, here’s one for the movie Jason Bourne:
<MediaContainer size="1" allowSync="1" identifier="com.plexapp.plugins.library" librarySectionID="5" librarySectionTitle="Heather's Movies" librarySectionUUID="84b56784-229c-4cd2-8130-a488d0eb3059" mediaTagPrefix="/system/bundle/media/flags/" mediaTagVersion="1482441772"> <Video ratingKey="3497" key="/library/metadata/3497" guid="com.plexapp.agents.imdb://tt4196776?lang=en" librarySectionID="5" librarySectionKey="/library/sections/5" type="movie" title="Jason Bourne" summary="" thumb="/library/metadata/3497/thumb/1485313270" art="/library/metadata/3497/art/1485313270" duration="7391592" addedAt="1485313223" updatedAt="1485313270"> <Media videoResolution="720" id="3124" duration="7391592" bitrate="1046" width="1280" height="532" aspectRatio="2.35" audioChannels="2" audioCodec="aac" videoCodec="h264" container="mp4" videoFrameRate="24p" optimizedForStreaming="1" audioProfile="lc" has64bitOffsets="0" videoProfile="high"> <Part accessible="1" exists="1" id="3542" key="/library/parts/3542/1482473887/file.mp4" duration="7391592" file="/media/ssd/Movies/Unwatched/Heather/Movies/Jason Bourne (2016)/Jason Bourne (2016).mp4" size="966351933" audioProfile="lc" container="mp4" has64bitOffsets="0" optimizedForStreaming="1" videoProfile="high"> <Stream id="10476" streamType="1" default="1" codec="h264" index="0" bitrate="949" bitDepth="8" chromaSubsampling="4:2:0" colorRange="tv" colorSpace="bt709" frameRate="23.976" hasScalingMatrix="0" height="532" level="41" profile="high" refFrames="5" streamIdentifier="1" width="1280"/> <Stream id="10477" streamType="2" selected="1" default="1" codec="aac" index="1" channels="2" bitrate="97" audioChannelLayout="stereo" profile="lc" samplingRate="44100" streamIdentifier="2"/> </Part> </Media> <Extras size="0"></Extras> </Video> </MediaContainer>

For Jason Bourne, it is trying to create the thumbnail at

/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Media/localhost/f/47acdcbadeeead5bcdff346c7282c335e7d7c4d.bundle/Contents/Art/art1.jpg

but failing to create that image. Can you manually check and make sure PMS has permission for that tree.

Also, this movie is in /media/ssd/Movies/Unwatched/Heather/Movies/. Your other thread has the path to the Magnificant 7 as /media/ssd/Movies/Unwatched/Movies/. Did you change something between these?

That was the issue, the path wasn’t writable. Somehow the path reverted to root:root instead of plex:users (plex is a member of the users group).

I’m not sure how it got changed, I never go in there except to check a log from time to time.

This also fixed the subtitle (srt) issue I was having here:

Woot. 2 birds with 1 stone.
