PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR after changing PlexPass/Server password

Server Version#: 1.18.8.2468
Player Version#: N/A

Recently I received an email from Plex alerting me to someone accessing my account from Miami, FL. None of the few people who are authorized were anywhere near miami, none were using VPN, etc., so I decided to change my password. Changed the password, logged into plex.tv successfully, but the web interface to my server wouldn’t reconnect, giving me the above error, and not as before allowing me the option of connecting anyway (previously, using the generic Plex SSL certificate, I was able to connect past the warning concerning suspicious certificate).

What the heck? I currently can’t do anything with Plex now until this is resolved. Please help!

I didn’t realize how true that last statement was – not only can’t I connect to the server control web UI, no device can get any content from the server either. I see plex processes running, and opening the Plex apps on the various devices gets to and past the user selection screen, but the server itself shows as unavailable.

Plex is running on Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS.

Some more information: Firefox is my default browser. Using Chrome instead, connecting to https://ubuntu:32400/ results in:

This site can’t be reached

ubuntu unexpectedly closed the connection.
ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED

…and if I try to connect without SSL:

Some basic questions (some will seem pedantic)

  1. https://ubuntu:32400/ – what does ubuntu resolve to (numerically)
  2. Do you have your own cert anywhere in your home LAN configuration ?

ubuntu resolves to 192.168.0.244, and as far as I know, I don’t have my own cert anywhere. Everything has been working fine, for years up until I changed the password (which was done via the server web ui rather than via plex.tv).

That’s probably why.

  1. Sign out the plex/web browser
  2. Open a new Window
  3. Go to to www.plex.tv (not app.plex.tv)
  4. Sign into your account settings.
  5. Force sign out everything as you change the password.
  6. Open an incognito window
  7. Open http://ip.addr.of.host:32400/web (or 127.0.0.1:32400/web if on the host)
  8. Sign in
  9. Claim it again.

The X-Plex-Token and other credentials will now all resync
go to your devices and sign them in again.
