Mine are not working either as of this week. I hope it gets fixed soon.
I can confirm that I just noticed at least since the latest PMS update (1.23.4.4712) Linux version (seems to be the same for the Windows version as per the original post) my pre-rolls no longer load and play. Can a moderator look into this and report to the Plex team to fix?
Thanks!
Definitely we need to have option to turn this off for “videos.”
…not only that, but the Merge on the home page option that they added back also makes any Videos stuff completely vanish. There is a fix for this supposedly in the pipeline however.
I too am expierencing this issue, currently running Ubuntu PMS version 1.23.4.4712-1f0ed4aea
All mount points are working, permissions are the same as before when it was working. No content in regards to prerolls has changed.
I also have this issue. I run Plex on Docker on top of Ubuntu. Version 1.23.4.4712. Prerolls were working for ages and then this update came out and it broke prerolls for all clients. I see them if I enable trailers, but I don’t want trailers. I just want prerolls. Has anyone at Plex identified this as a bug officially?
I wanted to add to the conversation that the pre-rolls stopped working on clients such as FireTV. However, they seem to still work when I play a movie using a web browser (like Chrome). Can anyone else confirm if they are having the same experience in a web browser playback? I’d really like to see this working again because I put a lot of effort into making customer pre-rolls.
My PreRolls hadn’t been working for several weeks, either. The only thing that worked, was to downgrade to a previous version. And it looks like there were a couple of updates that have come through recently. This needs to get fixed pretty quick.
Can confirm that I am another user having this issue. Started happening a couple weeks back and haven’t changed a thing
I liked this feature.
There have been one or two releases since this problem started, but for some reason unknown to me, the docker image has not been updated since version 4712… Has anyone tried the newer builds to see if this problem is resolved? Did Plex even acknowledge it as an actual problem? All my users have noticed the lack of prerolls.
Silence from Plex Admins.
Hi guys, This pre-roll issue isn’t a bug. It’s Plex. they change their policy. I also used to keep downgrade until fix comes. It looks like that fix never going to come. please read this Plex article. thank you.
What change in policy are you referring to?
Yeah. Looks like there is zero change. All the preroll verbiage is still there.
Please go and read the Advanced Settings section of the article. They clearly mention this.
Cinema Trailers pre-roll video
You can use this to allow you to specify one or more videos to be automatically played after Cinema Trailers and before the “main feature” movie. This can be used to add a “THX Sound” clip, a “please silence your phones” message, or similar.
Tip! : In order to have the “pre-roll” video(s) played, users will need to have the Cinema Trailers feature enabled in their Plex App. The Enable Cinema Trailers advanced library setting must also be enabled for the library.
If I am reading this correctly, you
- need to have clients have to have trailers manually turned on in the client
 - play a trailer before a preroll video will play?

So you have to play two trailers in essence. What users would wanna do that.
@scarbrtj yes everything is there. But Plex changed how pre-rolls suppose to work. previously Pre-rolls plays without changing any settings in the client. But now Pre-roll only works if client enables to play 1 or more movie trailers. Then Plex will play Plex movie trails prior to pre-roll.
so it’s queue like this: Plex trailer 1+ Plex trailer 2 etc + pre-rolls + Movie
That language has been present on the support page for many years. And that’s how it has functioned, in my experience, on many? most? clients.
There’s even a feature suggestion to allow forcing pre-roll videos on users.
It’s interesting that you saw different behavior.
I would have guessed that a client setting was simply lost, but some have stated that a previous version of PMS behaved differently. That’s …
It sounds like you would prefer different behavior, and might consider voting for that feature suggestion.
That’s simply not true.
@scarbrtj yes you are correct.
