Player Version#: 2026.2.0
Found a couple Plex Forum threads about this issue that were closed and locked from over a year ago. I only recently got into prerolls and today a remote user said “what prerolls” when I asked them about it after they watched a movie.
Turns out, they were using plex on iOS. They have the preroll only setting on in the app’s settings so it should have worked.
I tested it on my iPhone (17 PM / iOS 26.3) and it also does not play prerolls. I tried setting it to one cinema trailer instead of ONLY prerolls and that plays a trailer correctly, but no preroll.
What’s the deal? Seems to be a long standing, non-functioning setting that affects just mobile? Works fine through ATV or TV apps.
Fire TV Plex app skipping prerolls when set to “Play pre-roll only”
Prerolls have stopped playing automatically on my Amazon Fire TV Plex client.
My Plex server still has the preroll configured correctly, and the preroll itself works when Cinema Trailers is configured to play 1 trailer before the movie.
However, when Cinema Trailers is set to “Play pre-roll only”, Plex completely skips the preroll and starts the movie immediately.
This appears to be a Fire TV client issue. The same behavior has apparently occurred in previous Plex versions, where setting trailers to at least 1 worked around the problem.
Expected behavior:
When “Play pre-roll only” is selected, the configured Plex preroll should play before the movie.
Actual behavior:
The preroll is skipped and the movie starts immediately.
Device: Amazon Fire TV Server: TerraMaster NAS
Workaround: Setting Cinema Trailers to “Play 1 before movie” causes the preroll to play.
