I kind of miss the option to sort Adult material for my better half and me. The thing is that everyone use our Plex and watch movies from it etc.
The idea was to introduce a private section that doesn’t catch a lot of attention and protect this by password access.
I am aware this may be a sensitive issue in certain parts of the world. Coming from Denmark myself there are no issues at all, since we are quite liberal overhere. Concidering the level of restriction a company like Apple impose on their products is just insane to me. However, maybe we can use this thread to discuss the political stand point of Plex with regard to porn and adult material, and wether this should be supported actively in terms of private options and DB look-up and maybe plugins to sites like redtube and youporn.
In my book - porn is absolutely normal. Whats the fuzz. We all watch it, maybe some say they don’t.
I don’t think this is considered a sensitive subject; there are many threads discussing and requesting better control over private content of all kinds and the ability to have some type of parental control in Plex. I don’t know when the feature is coming, but I know the dev’s have stated several times it’s on the roadmap and a planned feature for future release.
I think the best solution for now is to add your adult material as a source in the video plug-in section. While not blocking it from being accessed it at least separates it out from the library and off the main menu. It’s less likely to be accidentally stumbled upon.
If you do wish to keep the video in the library, there are two (that I know of) adult video meta data agents available now in the metadata agent forum.
So I have no idea if this is feasible but how many Macs do you have in your house? My thought until such parental controls come out would be to have your main, “PG-13” Plex Library on the main machine, then install Plex on another Mac under a user only you and your spouse have access to, and set up the “Adult Library” on that. When you want to watch that, log into that user on that secondary Mac, open Plex, and that library will be available on any Mac running Plex via built-in bonjour, when you are done, shut down Plex AND the PMS on the secondary Mac, and it goes away…
A second option I believe would be to set up Plex under two different users on the same machine, one user is for ‘general’ viewing, the other is for ‘adult’ viewing. When you want to watch adult content, log into the ‘adult’ user, when done, log out and back into the ‘general’ user…
in either case i believe the ‘adult’ content is protected by the ‘adult’ user id and password, not perfect but maybe an option for now…
Just my 2 cents worth, but I would also like to have some control over what people see when they come to my house. Like others, I have some “XXX” content on my Mac. I also have some (lots, really) “R” content that I’d like to keep from the younger crowd. I’d love to see a way to have two different librarys availble with some kind of password protection.
Cheers!
Big fat +1 to this one. I share network resources with the girl across the hall in my apartment building. You get the picture.
You might get lucky :-D if you share the same fetishes. Good luck
More users on the Mac is not an option
More Macs is not an option
This is for the main viewing monitor used by everyone at all times. However, when no one's around ...................................................................................................!
This is how I handle this issue, but with an 11 month old running around I'm sure he'll figure out Plex soon enough and there will be a lot of content I'll want to keep him away from, not just pr0n. It would be nice to have some other method of limiting access to the media.
hahaha, true. i will let you know if anything works out. don't worry i'll spare you the details :D
Bump for great justice.
as for me for parental control I prefer to use ActyMac DutyWatch ( www.actymac.com )
It would also be useful if certain directories could be excluded from locations used by the movie art screen saver!
Plex seems to know the parental rating of a movie, but it doesn’t allow us to restrict it now. Hopefully that’s something that’ll come in the future.
Plex should NEVER EVER use fanart from XXX-movies... Neither in homeview or the fanart screensaver. That why I use custom folders for background pics and screensaver, but Plex will still fetch and cache the porn art in the background..so to speak. One little slip up and then your moviedate with the girl of your dream is over:) Isn't this a problem with they way you do it?
I think the best option regardless is to add a share in the video plugin section, maybe via Plex built in SMB-client to a password protected SMB-share? (instead of using an share that is mounted by finder which would not need a password).
Anyways I really can't think of why anyone would add porn to a library. The folder/list that you get via browsing via the video plugin works the best IMHO.
The topic here describes my situation _exactly_. I want sensitive stuff to be accessible, but not too accessible, and I want to prevent the fanart slide show to pick up the contents of it. The solution that you and another member talk about, adding a share or source to the video plugin section, seems perfect to - but question is how, and where, do I do that *blush*? Sorry for the maybe silly question, but I've really tried to find out...
Sounds like a perfect solution to me, but question is how, and where, do I do that? Sorry for the perhaps silly question, but I'm a newbie and have really tried to find out... just to fail miserably. Btw, I run Plex9 on a mac mini. Love the stuff. :)
Go to video plugins, press “C” on your keyboard. Menu will appear, choose add source (must have at least one source added). Browse to wherever you store your media and add. Will be available through video plugins, but won’t show in your media manager. Cheers.
+1 and a bazillion
It would really be nice for plex not to fetch fanart for the screensaver from adult material - and have ability to either password or restrict certain sections to not network share.
+1
A hidden password secured section would be really nice!
To put the Private Section just on another Machine and “hide” it in the Videosection is not very useful at all.
+1
I don’t put any adult content into Plex for this very reason…
Password protected adult area would be great, multi-user would be perfect.
And I agree, the adult wallpapers/fan art should never be shown as homeview or screensaver!
+1 from me, since I want to hide R rated movies…
