Parental Controls would be wonderful! This way I could finally have a centralized Media Server, and use Parental Controls to restrict each client!!
When will Plex have Parental control ??
+10 form me
+1 for parental controls, I don’t really want my young 'un watching films like “Strip Nude For Your Killer” by accident!
This would be a huge plus for Plex to have a way to put a Pin or Pass Code for certain libraries. Other media handlers out have a PIN code you use to prevent unauthorized access. Hopefully we will see this soon, keep up the great work!
This is all great but what about us that use either the linux version or the Windows version of Plex?
I would also very much like to see this…
Especially with the parental control also working on the iOS client.
+1. My daughter watches her movies/tv on the iPad, and would love to hide all the adult movies from her.
(by ‘adult’ I mean grown-up, not porn
)
+1
+1 for adding this before the end of the world later this year…
+100 from me. Parental Controls are really needed. The media center is in the ‘family room’ and each member of the family has different needs. I really miss this from the .8 versions…
I'm new to Plex and I just assumed that this would have been built in. Added our adult library and bumped around for the features. Guess it isn't there.
+1 from me. Would be great either by password or player.
If you are running a Mac PMS Check out this workaround until the feature is officially added.

thanks for the workaround, not gonna use it, does look quite complex.
sadly the option to manually add a folder won’t allow me to play wmv files.
i’m currently using a section w/ an unrelated name, but i could still accidentally hove over it and by that start the background posters, which i like, but preferred not to be visible in this section.
a pass code protected section would be superb or at least an option to disable the posters, should one accidentally select the adult section.
for a client that should NEVER have access to porn i can already just share my library via myplex and exclude the section.
Good idea!!!
I have an account with all my sections , and then, I have created an account for the kid that can access only the Animated section.
I have to manually change the myplex account according to the public using the client computer, but I am sure that no wrong thing will show up at the wrong time...
Currently have a “special” folder in my Plex directory that isn’t defined in Plex anywhere. From the Mac I just manually launch the file from the finder and it launches in Plex. Works for all the Macs in the house including the Mac Mini hooked up to the big screen in the living room. Only piece missing is being able to stream to the Apple TV in the bedroom. I stream via Airplay from Plex on my IOS devices.
I guess I’ll set up that 2ndary video source to the folder again and just modify it as required by miss configuring it when I want it hidden, then fix it when I want to access again.
Could you explain in more detail what you have done ?
Greatly appreciated
+1 from me too, and will try that add source method (im newbie, with synology NAS and window laptop only).
i love plex but please hurry up otherwise i might use appletv+xbmc
or, just watch my private with appletv+xbmc… hmm this might works too. i think we can setup xbmc with password? anyone tried?
another +1 for parental controls
Yes, a thousand times this.
I have a collection of movies that I allow my kids to just choose from. I have a collection of movies that I’ll allow occasionally. Then I have a collection of movies that they just shouldn’t watch.
Right now my only solution has been to have Plex host the kid friendly movies only. I would love to move everything on to it.
First up, I’m with everyone else. We are a (fairly) large household and I’m in the process of installing a Media Solution. Currently, Plex looks like my solution, but I have by no means made a final decision.
By the time I finish, I intend to have a single, central repository of media. I also intend to have an HDHomerun box and which I will use for both live viewing and recording. I will RIP by DVDs / BluRays and possibly do some torrenting as well. I then want a (fairly) large number of clients. This includes at least 3 or 4 dediacated televisions, a couple of PCs doubling up as viewers and the usual range of iPads, iPods, iPhone Android etc. There are 7 of us in the household the kids ranging in age from 18 (the eldest) to 8 (the youngest).
So, for all the reasons mentioned above, I want this. I want to track where each user is in the viewing of media and I also want to control who sees what. I’m OK, for example, with the older teens watching some quite heavy and dark material (and, like a lot of people have already said, I don’t mean p0rn) but I’d prefer the youngest not to stumble across (equally, and not discussed in this thread) I’d also like to be able to voluntarily hide content from the current user, so my older viewers don’t have to wade through endless entries of Spongebob!!)
ONE of the reasons I have elected to use Plex is the plethora of platforms it runs on. I know its roots are in the Mac and many people here are making Mac-based suggestions, but I would hope that any functionality like this would be on all platforms (and combinations of platforms).
So, overall +++++ for this feature request :D
