Problem connecting to remote server

Server Version#:1.20.3.3483
Player Version#:5.6.1

I’ve just bought a new Samsung UHD TV and installed the Plex App. It has no problem streaming content from Plex. However a friend has shared their Plex media with me and when I try to view it I get a message to say “Plex is Currently Unavailable”, “Please verify that the server is running and has a network connection.”.

So I used the web browser version of Plex on my laptop to check the server and that works fine. I also tried the iOS version on my phone and that can access it fine. It just seems to be the TV that cannot access it.

After reading some other forum posts I tried setting Allow Insecure Connections and Prefer Insecure Connections to Always but that made no difference (so I’ve changed it back).

I can AirDrop it to the TV from the phone, so not the end of the world, but just a little annoying to have to do that.

I’d appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Just an update. The server has been updated to the latest version (1.21.1.3830) but still no luck connecting.

I’ve been having the same problem with my Samsung smart tv’s since July 20 update. I’m able to connect via Amazon TV

Just an update on this. I now have the Samsung TV App working with the remote content.

I don’t know the exact fix as I changed a couple of things but it was something related to the network setup rather than a Plex server setting or Plex App setting.

Check that UPnP is allowed. Also check the firewall and for any port forwarding problems. Sorry I can’t be more specific as I’m not an expert on networks, so it was a bit of trial and error. But after triple checking the Plex setup on both server and TV it was all I could think.

Weird how it only affected the TV.
