Problem setting up new server

Server Version#: 1.14.1.5488-cc260c476
Player Version#:

DSM version 6.2.1-32824 Update 4

Hi,

I have an old Synology attached to my account (not sure if that’s relevant), but I upgraded to a newer Synology recently. I installed the listed version of the software, and have it enabled. However, if I go to the Main Menu, and select Plex Server, I do not get the option to add it to my account. It goes to a link on that box (I only see the site name), then redirects to app.plex.tv. From there, I can look at my account, of course, but can’t add the new synology. Nor can I find it by searching; it just keeps saying that no server can be found.

If I just go to /web, it seems to work, but shows exactly the same thing as on app.plex.tv. And again, it keeps telling me it can’t find a server. I saw another thread that suggested going to /manage/index.html#!/setup (link truncated because of new user posting limit). If I go to that link, it tells me that I don’t have any media servers, and I need to download or install one.

I saw something that suggested that the plex user needed to have permissions to read the share(s) of relevance. I checked that, and did add the share with all the movies (I had missed it, originally).

I hope a reboot isn’t needed, as I’m in the middle of adding a second parity volume, and it’ll be quite a long time until that’s done (probably over a week).

Any suggestions much appreciated,

Dave Clemmer

Opening the Plex share, drilling down into it, and making a ZIP of the Logs directory will tell me a lot about what’s going on.

I’m not sure what you mean about the “Plex share”. There’s nothing in the home directory for the plex user, and no Logs directory in the Movies share. The plex user doesn’t have write permission anywhere else (actually, even the Movies share is read-only, come to that). Do I need to create a new share just for plex?

Ah… saw it in the Share definition; didn’t realize it had created a share my normal user had no permissions to. Here are the logs: plex_logs.zip (275.2 KB)

When I go to that link, the address says it’s the NAS, but it’s already logged in, and the only settings are for ‘Web Client’. When I restarted Plex (after looking at the Preferences.xml, which had none of the keys listed in that FAQ), every time I tried going to http://nas:32400/web, it immediately redirected to app.plex.tv (and again, the only settings were for ‘Web Client’; I tried brute-forcing going to server settings (by typing in what seemed like a reasonable URL), but it said the server didn’t exist).

I’m open to any other suggestions.

Thanks again.

What is the IP address of the computer and what is the IP address of the Synology?
Are you and it both on the same physical (LAN) network?

Both are on the same subnet. One is xx.142 and the other is xx.76, and there are three switches between them.

I am also trying to set up a Synology NAS for the 1st time. My issue is similar but states it can’t be reached from outside my network. Would you recommend i run the claimit file?

trumpy…thx i looked into how my isp was handing out addresses. i am definitely running into a double nat issue.
