Progam guide information in New Zealand (NZXMLTV)

I just hadn’t pushed another manual update (I’ve also tracked down the source of this issue, so it should be fixed tomorrow, ready for a fresh update for both SKY and Freeview on Saturday).

I’ve now pushed a new update for the Freeview XMLTV. There will be a SKY one tomorrow afternoon or evening.

Sorry, I hadn’t realised that you were updating the data manually.
I’ll try and be more patient in future. :slightly_smiling_face:

Everything is back to normal now, so the automated daily updates for both guides have now resumed. Thanks everyone for their patience.

Hi everyone. I’m getting close to releasing a new version of the SKY guide (with the goal of having it out sometime this week), with greatly improved metadata. However, there is some changes in the naming of shows, which is relied upon by Plex for setting recordings.

Because of this, it may be a good idea to note down what recordings you have scheduled, so that they can be rescheduled if the titles change. This shouldn’t be an issue for the free-to-air channels, but may be a bigger issue with the sports channels. Again, this only affects those using the SKY guide.

If you have any questions feel free to let me know, and I hope to have the updated guide out soon.

I’ve just pushed an updated version of the SKY guide, which is a complete rewrite of how the guide is generated. It is now generated from a new source, containing season and episode numbers and images for most shows. Additionally, it is now integrated into the same metadata engine as the Freeview based guide so any improvements to that engine will be instantly visible across both guides.

For reference, here is the new SKY guide in Plex:

The link is the same, so the guide is available at Mt Hutt Rescue

You may have to update your channel mappings, as the channel numbers have changed from being 001 (TVNZ 1) to simply 1 (TVNZ 1)

If there are any issues or questions, feel free to let me know

Another update. I’ve just done a partial rewrite of the sports matching code. This should result in several improvements around sports, especially in Plex:

  • Only sporting events (including replays & highlights) will now have the ‘Sport’ or ‘Sports’ category attached. This means analysis, pre-match, post-match & general sporting related shows will be categorised as ‘shows’ rather than ‘sports’.
    • This means some analysis shows, and some sporting events may be categorised incorrectly (as this matching is very strict). If this is the case please let me know.
    • This also means analysis and sports events now have different titles. This means a series recording on one of them will not apply to the other. This is because I had to add an invisible character to analysis shows to workaround a lack of support for mixed programme types in Plex. Additionally, this means the shows will display seperately, when recorded, in the library.
  • Improved extraction of team names.
    • There is a few issues with this extraction, where some ‘extras’ are added to the team name. If you notice this, please let me know.
  • Automatically generated episode names. Instead of solely relying on broadcaster supplied information for sporting events, NZXMLTV now (in some cases) creates its own subtitles, which generally shows (if available), the teams playing, whether the match is a final, semi-final or quarter final, what round the match is and whether the match is live, a replay, highlights or a minified version.
  • Added two new sports to the predefined list (Hockey & UFC). This currently doesn’t do much in Plex, as the filtering by sports is currently broken, however this should be useful in the future, when that feature is working again.

There is also currently an issue with the Freeview guide, where there is no guide data past Wednesday. This is an issue with the data source (i.e. the official Freeview app also lacks this data), and not with NZXMLTV. I have no control over when this will be fixed, but hopefully it is soon.

As usual, if there are any problems or questions, feel free to let me know.

Regarding the Freeview guide. I see on the app that there is now data up until midnight on Thursday. So hopefuly tomorrow will show Friday’s programme data.
{ just checked the Freeview guide on their website and the full weeks programmes are displayed, so It’s just their app as you have said shea9872.

Seems like the data has been updated now, so we’re back to the normal 8 day guide

As it seems like multi lineup support is being worked on (which will hopefully include XMLTV), along with a bit of extra time (I wonder why!), I am wondering if there is any other guide data sources you guys would like me to incorporate. These would be separate xml files to the main guide, but will use the same metadata engine (perhaps with some NZ specific things disabled). At the moment, I am planning to add Redbull TV, based on a request I got quite a while ago, however apart from that, if there is anything that anyone would be interested in, I’d be willing to give it a look.

Sorry to report again but thre appears to be no guide data after midnight on Thursday.
If you could take a look just when you can , that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Fixed. Thanks for letting me know.

There was recently a bug fixed in Plex Media Server which allows for XMLTV files larger than 20mb to parse correctly. Because of this, in a months time, I will be re-enabling several features in the SKY guide that will make it larger than 20mb, so if you use the SKY guide, then please upgrade to PMS 1.19.2.2701 or later. If anyone needs more time to do this upgrade, or if you have any questions, please let me know!

I’ve just switched NZXMLTV to a new server (so its no longer hosted on Github). For Plex users, there will be no change, all existing links and guide urls have been tested and verified to continue working.

Other programs should work fine, as long as they can handle redirects. If not, here is the new URLs that can be used:
Freeview: https://nzxmltv.com/xmltv/guide.xml
SKY: https://nzxmltv.com/sky/guide.xml
Redbull TV: https://nzxmltv.com/iptv/redbull.xml
Pluto TV: https://nzxmltv.com/iptv/plutotv.xml

However, if everything is still working, then it is strongly recommended that you stick to the nzxmltv.github.io URLs, in case I need to switch back to Github for any reason.

Again, if you are using Plex, then you do not need to change anything!

Additionally, NZXMLTV now has a status page at https://nzxmltv.statuspage.io/. If an issue appears on there, that means I am already aware of it and that it should be fixed soon.

As always, if there is any issues, feel free to let me know.

Hi @shea9872,

Firstly I just want to say a big thankyou for the ongoing work you’ve committed to run this server. You’re an absolute kiwi legend!

I’ve discovered a minor issue which may relate to the code you’re using to remove the “New” from TV shows (which I agree is fantastic and mostly works perfectly). My wife started recording “Eat Well For Less New Zealand” but the guide calls it “Eat Well For Less Zealand”. See below, I renamed the first recording but new recordings are still incorrect.

Maybe its possible to add some logic so that if “New” is followed by “Zealand” then the New doesn’t get removed?

Thanks again, Elton.

Thanks for letting me know - turns out I was missing a colon in the detection! Should be all sorted now

Hi @shea9872. Sorry, your notification went to my junk folder so I just saw it. Fantastic, thanks for fixing it so quickly, glad you found it. Cheers, Elton.

Hi,
I notice my Plex program guide only has content up until Tuesday the 30th of June (4 days). I have tried a manual update of the guide but that didn’t result in additional content. Is this affecting other users of the awesome NZ guide for Plex provided by @shea9872 ?

Seems to be an issue with the Freeview data source, as the official Freeview app is missing data from the 30th onward as well. Not much I can do until the data is updated on there, but I will keep you all updated.

I notice that the whole weeks programme data is showing on the Freeview TV Guide. I hope this will help.
