PS3 2.4.24

Plex app crashes, leave 3 dots on screen. Only once recovered, and continued.
Happens randomly, different stages through files, replay of same file, issue not repeated.
Pretty much every time Plex server shows as offline immediately after for short time, then it can see it.
Plex server never offline, can use via other client when issue occurs on PS3.
Mixture of containers, avi, MP4, mkv.
Mixture of audio and quality, SD, 720, 1080.

Seems the PS3 app “loses” the server while playing and crashes.

Anyone else seen this?

I’ve not seen the app crashing, but there is a known issue where navigating through menus becomes VERY slow over time. This may be similar or realated?

Hi, No sorry, not the same issue. This is during playback, it literally stops (plex dots on screen) mand then the only way out is to quit, which invariably causes the PS3 to reboot.

Sorry, I misunderstood your description. This sounds like you may be suffering from the buffering issues which have also been reported. If you are able to consistently reproduce the problem while watching a particular film or show then it would be worth gathering log files and media information for the developers to have a look at:

Note the 3 dots (elipses) which show on screen are the way buffering now shows.

Thanks again for the reply David. I did look at that post, but it is not repeatable on a particular segment, and seems more related to time. It seems that at about an hour in this happens. It’s like there is a memory leak, and rebooting and starting from where you left off works just fine.

I don’t see this described in the post. These files are transcoded on the server and delivered to the Playstation.

Thanks
Simon

The post describing the buffering issue is a little vague on this point, but I also see the problem happening after about an hour of playback, and only in some films (most TV shows are 45-60 minutes long so much less likely to happen). For those Films which do show the issue I have not managed to work out the correlating feature but I think it happens more in 1080p than in 720p films.
For me the key thing is that I don’t want to watch the same film more than once to test if the issue repeats. Not helpful for the community but I’m sure you see my point

Perhaps @mattseeley could provide more info/guidance on what would be helpful here.

Yes, I do, and most of my stuff is 720p. Although last night was 476p
episodes. It crapped out on the second and forced a reboot on the PS3.
It has been a mixture of audio, quality and container, hence thinking more
of an app problem than the stream itself.

That sounds very frustrating. My media collection is quite consistent in terms of h.264 video but inconsistent for everything else with a mix of audio AC3/AAC/mp3 and containers mkv/mp4.

The most significant aspect of the PS3/PS4 app is that Sony limit the video file formats which can be played and this results (for me at least) in the files being transcoded or DirectStreamed most of the time. This means the server side transcoder is involved and therefore the media information for a specific file will be important for the developers to potentially identify and resolve the issue.
