I got the PS5 on launch day and downloaded plex. When I go to play some 4K movies it only plays for like 30 seconds at a time then buffers again. I can watch that same movie on my TV with no issues. It also doesn’t happen on all my 4K movies but most.
Same here (created a post here that has gotten no response from Plex)) and even on a wired connection. The plex app itself has crashed a bunch of times after starting a 4K movie. I sent the crash reports to Sony and offered Plex the same but no reply from them.
Having this issue also. Even some 720/1080p will buffer & not recover. My PS5 replaced an appleTV4K that never had these issues & even now I can cast from my PC or use the appleTV or a PS4 with no issues.
I’m also having this issue, hoping Plex rolls out an update soon to better optimize since the PS5 should be able to easily playback these streams. Plex on my Roku TV streams smoother than the PS5 in the same position.
Another voice to the list. I have a network all wired with GB ethernet and the file is fully compatible for direct play. When playing the file on PS5, it works for like 5-10 minutes and then completely crashes. If I’m playing the exact same file on the exact same network from my Plex for Windows app, it works perfectly. Plex for PS5 seriously needs to get the 4k stuff to work as that is a large reason for Plex on the PS5 compared to just using the cheaper PS4.
I keep having issues with 4K content with local play with my PS5, it’s kinda amazing how bad it is when I can load up my 2 years old LG TV app and it does it…over WiFi without issues at all. My original Nvidia shield also has no issues with 4K so it’s straight up the PS5 version of the app.
I am having same issues on PS5, trying to rewatch Entourage and I can’t get through an episode without it buffering 5-10 times? And this is next GEN? They need to patch this asap!
It’s pretty obvious with the updates happening on the PS5 they are riddled in all kinds of issues, but they have just got to get playback fixed and fixed soon. Basically all of their power users cannot use Plex right now on the PS5 and they are doing in development what I call “quick wins”. This mentality in development sprints is usually adopted when they are low on development resources and trying to report some type of improvement in internal reporting metrics. I can’t understand how this type of issue would be able to make it 3 releases which means 3 SPRINTS and not be addressed…It’s not even be replied to by any developer or team member at Plex, it’s simply being ignored right now or at least from the end users perspective.
