Server Version#: 1.20.0
Player Version#: 1.16.0.1364
I was trying to listen to my music on my QNAP NAS through plex. when i brought up the plex app on my windows 10 desktop computer, my server was not there. the authorized qnap version was at 1.19. i deleted it. but i have no access to the “server” in the app to add the server back in. i have no idea what to do at this point. i can’t even access the video on my qnap nas through the plex app on windows. i even tried the web browser interface and have the exact same problem not sure what do .
Go back to the browser and work from there.
Plex/Web is how you administer the server, not the app.
I’m not sure where i’m supposed to go. I’ve looked around and can’t find anything for adding the server even though i’m logged directly into the server. i’m confused.
How did you set it up?
Don’t you remember how to navigate the Plex/Web desktop?
How did I set what up? I installed the latest version from plex.tv for both my QNAP NAS (server version) and windows 10 desktop computer (player version). on the player app, it only see what’s online through plex.tv. it does not see my server. When i log directly into the PLEX server on my QNAP NAS through Chrome on the same windows 10 desktop computer, that interface only sees what is in your plex.tv portal. it does not see the other items on my server. I can watch plex fine from my Apple TV And ipad.
IN the chrome web interface on the server here is the image i get when i click on the wrench icon in the upper right corner
In my opinion and expectation, nothing should have changed with the upgrade. I do know that I had to create the PlexData partition (share files folder) on my QNAP NAS in order to watch the videos on my QNAP NAS from my apple tv.
Other than that, I don’t know what to do.
From what you show here, your QNAP server doesn’t recognize you as the owner.
It would look like this if it did.
I’d like to start here and get your server back to recognizing you as its owner.
- Sign out of your plex/web account (upper right corner)
- Close the browser and reopen it
- Open an incognito window to http://ip.addr.of.qnap:32400/web
- If it does anything other than have you sign in and give you the admin view from Settings like I show here (where you see all the server settings) please do the following.
- Screenshot what you do see so I can follow along
- Using the PlexData share in FileStation (which isn’t required – it’s a diagnostic aid only)
- Navigate PlexData/Plex Media Server
- Right-click ‘Logs’ and create the ZIP archive of the Logs directory
- download that ZIP to your computer then upload here for me to review.
I’m having a similar problem too. My Plex is hosted on a Qnap Nas. I was listening to music at work through the web browser (Chrome) using the launching from plex.tv when it stopped, saying content not available. My NAS is up and running, I tried stopping and restarting Plex, but it’s still saying my server is unavailable.
I cannot connect securely or unsecurely. Plex web Version 4.40.1. Also wont connect to the phone app.
Can’t access them since I can’t connect to the server. I’m not at home, I was remotely listening to music at work via the browser. It was working fine, nothing changed on my end, now it doesn’t connect to anything.
Russ,
You cannot remote connect to your QNAP through QNAP’s Cloud?
Logs.zip (4.1 MB)
I can access my QNAP dashboard, but plex wont load on my work PC through it which is why I use the web link on plex.tv. It never has.
If you can access the QNAP remotely, get to its desktop.
You should find a “PlexData” share in your Shared Folders list.
Edit the permissions and make certain the username you’re using has access to it.
Then, once access is confirmed, open FileStation.
In FileStation, click PlexData -> Plex Media Server
You’ll now find yourself looking at the PMS internal files,.
You’ll see the Logs directory.
Right-click it and create a ZIP file.
When complete, download that zip and then attach here.
@athodey
Your server cannot connect to plex.tv. It can lookup the host IP but can’t do anything else. Please check the QNAP’s network settings (default adapter) . Something is wrong there. It looks like you have no default adapter / route defined.

When it tries to talk to Plex.tv, it cannot get a reply because there is no way to get there.
(As FYI. Having two adapters on the same subnet does’t benefit in any way. In most cases, it only causes confusion and is likely contributing to that confusion here now)

NO problem!
- Delete the share
- Now create it again manually, place it on any DataVol you wish.
- Assign the appropriate permissions.
- Restart Plex.
- Let run 15 seconds then stop it. (that’s all it needs)
- When you now restart Plex, the share will populate and come to life for you.
I apologize for what you’re seeing. Some QTS systems do that and I was forced to make several changes. Those changes should be fully available to everyone in 1.20.2
Once you manually create this PlexData share, you’ll never have the problem again. (this is the QTS problem I’ve been facing)
Went to try that shared folder thing, and I just got a QNAP firmware update notice. I don’t know why that would make my plex stop working when it I haven’t ran the update yet, but I’ll do that update tonight when I get home and report back. Plex wont run on my cellphone app either, so I should be able to check the remote connectivity outside my home network with that.
It looks like the 10Gbe card i have is not connected (i’m hoping it’s only a cable issue and not a heat issue hurting the card from the NAS itself). I had that set as the default internet gateway. so i switched it back to auto. i then stopped and restarted the plex server app in the qnap app area. it seems to work. it took a little bit of logging in and logging out to get the plex server in my plex account and working with the windows app, but it works now.
thank you
I have the QNAP (Aquantia) card in my system. I’ve not experienced any heat issues.
If you have a GPU card in there, maybe you should consider placing the NIC on the “short slot” side?
I ran the Qnap firmware update last night and it seemed to fix it. I’m guessing there was a crash or something and the rebooting of the Qnap fixed it more than needing a firmware out of the blue since it was working fine and stopped halfway through a song.
