QNAP App remains standby

Server Version#: 1.21.1.3766 /QNAP 4.5.1
Player Version#: Web

I currently seem unable to start Plex properly. After a software update to 1.21.0, the plex server never became visible again. Restarting the QNAP (TVS 673e) changes exactly the same as restarting Plex - nothing. The app is shown in the resoruce manager, as being in Standby, using 0% CPU and 83.2mb of ram.

Another upgrade to 1.21.1 didn’t change anything either.

Not really sure where to go next. I could reinstall Plex, but that would be quite a loss in correctly named files etc…

Anybody have any next steps for me?

Where is it you can no longer see/access your Plex Media Server?
Can you still access the embedded version of Plex Web using http://[QNAP IP address]:32400/web or do you get some error message?

I use exclusively the website via app.plex.tv when actually using it, and when I do stuff on the server I use the internal ip website, as qnap links me to that when I choose “open” in the app center. Oh, of course I’m in the same network as the server is, and the server is 7 feet to the left of me  I can also access the server via IP no issue at all.

app.plex.tv gives me the usual spiel about my server being not available but the included services still work. Using the internal IP leads to permanent loading with no progress being made at all(“waiting for 192.168…”)

To me it feels like I somehow bricked Plex in a way that QNAP thinks it started without issue, while the software does not start at all.

thx… could you download and attach your server logs?

  1. Before doing so, please enable debug logging (but disable verbose logging) under Settings > [Server Name] > General.
  2. After you experienced the issue, download the logs from Settings > [Server Name] > Manage > Troubleshooting > Download Logs
  3. Upload the zip file here… – it might help if you can give a rough timeframe when the issue happened

I would love to do that, but as far as I can see, there is no option for me to download the logs, or even start the logging, as I can not access the server. To me it appears as if the server is shut down.

I can do whatever you need on the QNAP server, but I can not access Plex as far as I am aware

Or is there a different settings menu I am not aware of?

  • Make sure PMS is disabled on the QNAP.
  • Then reboot your QNAP.
  • Then try and enable PMS.

Holy Crap, I’m pretty sure I did this twice before, but apparently thrid times the charm

Thank you both for your help

You’re welcome, and your issue was a PMS thread that was hanging, thus preventing a restart
