QNAP NAS and Remote Access Problems

Server Version#: 1.14.0.5470
Player Version#: 3.71.1

I am having problems with Plex keeping my Remote Access enabled on my QNAP NAS. I get the Remote Access to work and within a few hours/days I get a message that I do not have a direct connection and playback is limited through a indirect connection. My NAS has two IP addresses: one that is connected to my router and has access to the internet and the other IP address is 10 Gbe connection directly connected to my main PC which does not have internet access.

Sometimes when I get the indirect connection error message it is because the Remote Access IP address has changed to the 10 Gbe connection, and other times the IP address stayed the same but the port has changed. I have tried to manually specify a public port but I have not been able to get that to work.

Any suggestions on how to get this to work would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

To be completely clear…

Modem/router <-> QNAP <-> Computer

Is this correct?

My QNAP NAS is connected by an Cat 7 ethernet cable to Wi-Fi router and my PC is connected over Wi-Fi to the router also. Additionally, I have a Cat 7 ethernet cable that is connected straight into a 10 Gbe port on my QNAP NAS speed to achieve faster transfer speeds.

As for PMS 1.14.0.5470, Remote Access in that beta version has been updated because a change has been made to resolve what you’re seeing.

When released to beta, you will see the build number change. I do not yet know what the new build number will be (In testing now).

If you can wait a bit longer, Remote Access will be resolved.

As for Cat 7, unless your NAS is more than 100 meters from your PC. cat 6a would be ok. (as FYI)

So I should just wait until the new version is release? It is kind of a pain as I have to go in and fix it every day.

Thank you for the tip about Cat 6a, but the price difference was only minimal.

If you want to follow along , SA2000 is handling this issue with Remote Access. The thread is here. Remote Access Issues Again

As for 6a vs 7, I have 2m distance and SFTP 5e, which I had laying around, also works for that distance due to the shielding.

Thank you for your help

Over the last few days, I have been unable to establish Remote Access. No matter what I try the port always goes to 0 instead of an actual port number. When I try to manually specify a public port it goes fully green for one second and then turns to red. Please advise what I am doing wrong.

go to the WAN port of the router (or in its control panel).

Verify it’s IP adfdress is not in the 100.6x.xxx.xxx (it’s a /10 subnet mask)

If you are, that’s what changed.

Returning 0 is a bad sign. PMS isn’t getting all the way out to the internet
