Qnap TS-251D - Remote Access goes unavailable

Hello I am having an issue with my PMS running off a Qnap. It was fine up until recently, not sure if it was an update but Remote Access is no longer stable. Throughout the day it becomes unavailable outside my network and i have to disable remote access and then renable it in order for it to work again. I have attached my latest logs and my system information is below. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Server Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.22.0.4163

Thanks for providing the logs with your OP.

From what I can see, you’re having a complete loss of network (LAN → WAN) connectivity.

There is no route to any host (the adapter is down).
When it comes back up, it cannot resolve host names.

If this is WiFi, there is an issue with signal strength and it dropping out.
If thie is wired, there is a physical connection issue.

Thank you. I am wired. I will try switching out the cables, see if that does the trick.

unfortunately switching cables and ports did not work. went down again within a few hours.

@anunez86

What does the QNAP system log show?

I’m not sure how to access my qnap logs. I’m not getting any errors on the qnap end from what I can tell.

Found the logs. this is what it showed during the last timeframe it went down. at 8:27 i believe that’s when I stopped remote access it again to reanable it. I then did a reinstall and it went down not too long after, it doesn’t show anything after 8:27:41

There is nothing printed in red?

(something like this)

Error 2021-03-13 08:12:21 — 127.0.0.1 — --- Plex Media Server is currently running or hasn’t been shutdown properly. Please stop it from QNAP AppCenter and start it again.

This one but I don’t think that’s the issue. Only because that’s the only time I see that error, and I know the remote access being unavailable happens often.

its happening more often now. just 2-3 times this morning. I’ve attached an updated log.

Plex Media Server Logs_2021-03-13_11-58-49.zip (1.2 MB)

Been thinking about this a while.

Depending on how you feel about rummaging around in it (maybe use the PlexData share?), we can grab crash DMP files and see where it dies.

Whatever is happening is probably causing that cascade which takes Remote Access down with it.

Since I last posted I made a change. I moved the NAS and plugged it in directly to my modem. at the moment it has not had an issue since then. So maybe something in-between the two before was not working properly anymore.

I’ll monitor this for another day or so, if it goes that long without an issue its the longest I’ve had in a while. If the issue comes up again, we can try the PlexData share.

Thank you so much for your help so far, you put me on the right track it seems.

So the issue came back again. I looked in the logs on my browser and it has this error that keeps popping up. Could this be causing the problem?

The red one? No. that’s the player simply stating it doesn’t have a named profile. Its a bit of a red herring . It should be a warning not an error.

i’ve been trying to look how to use plexdata share. Is there a thread already here on this?

i have a thread about it but it’s very simple.

  1. Create a shared folder, named PlexData, anywhere you want.
  2. Assign any access permissions you want as well.
  3. Restart PMS
  4. After PMS starts, open File Station
  5. In there, you will find a link (blue) “Plex Media Server”. It looks like a directory.
  6. When you click it, FileStation will traverse from the share down into the QPKG structures where PMS really is installed.
  7. All the files you see there are the actual live PMS files (be careful)
  8. If PMS is stopped, you can make backups, restore, or adjust preferences, anything you like which is supported.
  9. From this point forward, every time you start PMS , even if moved, the link in PlexData will always track to where your installation is. (great for when you use the “Migrate To” function of App Center)
  10. If you ever need the Logs (PMS stopped), they are always available to you in FileStation. No SSH required.

Got it! i have all the PMS files in there. It has also since crashed. Which filed would you need to take a look at?

so i deleted the plexdata folder as i saw it duplicated my multimedia and now my main plex folder is gone. FML

@anunez86

The PlexData has only ONE thing in it “Plex Media Server”.

That is the link to your REAL server. It’s not a copy. That is the live data.

At this point, unless you have a backup copy, you need to start over.

I can help with that but first need to know if you do have a backup copy ?

i do not have backup copy, i guess i didnt turn on my auto snapshots. FML again
