QNAP TS-253Be Issues Playing Movies

Hi there… this is a continuing problem for me and I am at a loss as to what to do.

I have a QNAP TS-253Be, which I have had for almost 4 years. The drives are in good health, and the server runs normally. I have used it to store my movie and TV libraries for Plex, and always run the latest version of the QNAP Plex server software, as well as the latest QNAP firmware. I primarily watch Plex on the Roku tv app, or sometimes the PS5 or Mac players.

I have been consistently having trouble playing video on Plex for some time now. When I watch a movie, there are usually periodic video glitches (rainbow/green interference) and then the video just ends as if fully played. It does not matter whether the movie is 4K or 1080p, or H264 or H265. I have confirmed that the video files themselves are fine, as they play normally (if not possibly better) from a Plex server running on my Mac air laptop. I am always running the latest version of the QNAP server software, and the player.

The only thing I can think of is that it is a networking issue from the server.

Initially, I had the server run directly into my router, and don’t think I ever had any issues. A couple years ago, I switched my router to an Eero 6, which had less inputs and I had to use a network switch for my various devices into the router. I have a Links’s SE3005 5 port gigabyte ethernet switch.

I am at a complete loss as to what exactly is wrong and how to even figure it out. My guess is it has something to do with the switch. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
