Quality has really, really gone down

It’s really, really horrendous! I’ve been a Plex Pass subscriber for years and over the years the quality has come down to absurd levels… After wrestling with Plex on Apple TV and on the iOS app (all I wanted was just f*cking watch some of my media) for the upteenth time, I’ve had it and need to vent. This is really becoming obnoxious.

Pretty sure the admins will come in and act all surprised, not aware of anything but you know it just as well as I do. It’s pathetic. From hacks to the servers all the way to bugs that are present after months and months. It’s just mind boggling. But please, DO keep on adding stupid streaming stuff no-one is asking for which doesn’t even work. You’re doing such a fine job, us paying customers are really, really wanting those features….

I am sorry to have to put these harsh words out, but I really don’t get why you are leaving your paying fan base out in the cold. It’s very, very off putting.

I would like to put a word of caution out to anyone thinking to get a Plex Pass subscription. Please think twice.

What specific problem are you having?

Right now my local media doesn’t show up, possibly to do with the breach, or rather: the steps I needed to take to sign out of all devices, change pass etc.

Some examples, cumulated over time:

  • Just random crashes of the iOS app, the tvOS app
  • Videos playing very choppy or with weird color issues inside the Plex client on tvOS (while Infuse will play them just fine running it through Plex)
  • When controlling a different player through the iOS app it will just keep forgetting you’re controlling a different player and now you’re stuck fiddling to get control back
  • Subtitles not working
  • No subtitles downloaded but somehow the tvOS app thinks there are subtitles and just crashes playback, so now you need to get back, check subtitles, see that now the list is indeed empty so you can download and then play
  • Not storing that you’ve actually seen an episode of a show
  • “Movies & Shows” they’re pushing so hard simply keep forever spinning because you have a setting that you want English subtitles but with subtitles it only just show an infinite spinner. Fiddle around for a while to learn that you need to turn off subtitles and then all of a sudden it works

All in all it’s just an ever increasing frustrating experience. I don’t want to fiddle, I want to play my media.

It’s amazing to me that so many of us have widely varied experiences. I have my own problems with Plex … for sure … but none of those.

Well, I don’t even use tvOS where lots of your problems are, but my iOS apps seem reliable, for example.

I’d still enthusiastically support a temporary feature freeze and bug smashing spree.

Hardware transcoding is not working in current stable versions of PMS. Here’s one discussion about it: Hardware transcoding not working with 4k UHD files Maybe some of the problems you’re seeing are because of that.

No, I’m not transcoding. Or at least, it should not transcode. Infuse plays the same files without problems and they also come from Plex. :man_shrugging:

the drop in quality control over the past few years and the apparent lack of desire to fix long standing bugs are the primary reason i cancelled Plex Pass.

from where i was standing it didn’t look like my money was going to help make the product better.

Oh ok. I use transcoding a lot and was lucky to notice the messages here that it’s broken before I would have updated Plex.
