Hi guys, I know there has been a lot of discussion re: Collections, and the fact people would prefer a different way to collate their box sets. If I have a box set that has extras for each film on that particular disk (eg Lord of the Rings Trilogy, has the extras for Fellowship of the Ring on that disk, same for Two Towers etc) I can include them in that particular movies folder to show up on plex properly using the subfolders (featurettes, trailers etc) but how do people go about storing / displaying box sets that has its extras on completely seperate disks? i.e the Alien Anthology has 6 blu rays - 4 for the movies, and 2 specifically for the extras.
How would people recommend getting this onto plex? The idea situation would be to have an ‘Alien Anthology’ entry, which then has all the movies / extras branching out of it, but I know thats not possible
I’m wondering the same thing. All of the Star Wars, Indiana Jones, etc box sets have their own disc for extras. If the box set could be put under its own directory, and with subdirectories for each film, I think it would solve it, but I don’t believe that the plex team has yet solved the box sets behavior so it’s really a moot point.
It may not be the way you want it, but it works and it’s what we have to do:
The ‘Sort Title’ Field brings all the movies together in a row - in a separate library for Movie Sets (as I have done) or in your magnum movie library (do whatever you feel you must):
You are free to:
Complain about it - many do
Make Feature Requests for a change - many have already been made - some years old
Or make do with what we have to work with.
If the set is big enough, I create a new folder/library specifically for that set. Under ‘Libraries’, on the Home screen, I might have ‘Movies’, ‘Star Trek Collection’, ‘Batman Collection’, ‘Man with No Name’, ‘Cartoon shorts’, ‘Laurel and Hardy’, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean Collection’, etc… I think that’s the purpose of ‘Libraries’ to begin with. In fact, I consider ‘Libraries’ to be ‘Collections’. I’ll bet no one would complain about this if Plex replaced the word ‘Library’ with ‘Collection’, especially if they displayed the ‘Libraries/Playlist’ with icons on the ‘Home screen’.
Then there is ‘Playlist’, which can be a useful tool.

I have a Bond, James Bond library - Sort Title lays them all side by side.
My Sci-Fi Sets Library has 110 movies in it, but the Sort Title Field lays them all next to each other and I find it’s very easy to to find what I need.
I have 26 Libraries now, but soon will have more. It’s not a big deal.
Clever Library Creation does make this ‘workable’, for those that are willing to explore new things and make them work.
