Question: Where does Plex get the metadata from when it automatically creates movie collections?

I just rebuilt my server from scratch and noticed that Plex has automatically created collections for various movies John Wick, Indiana Jones, Spiderman, The Avengers etc. It pulls in collection posters automatically as well as a collection description. I wanted to know where Plex gets this metadata from. It failed to create collections that you would expect, like the MCU and DCEU, so I wanted to know how it creates them.

They come from themoviedb.org and they have specific rules for which types of collections they allow: Overview - Collection Bible — The Movie Database (TMDB)

I have never used collections and just took a look to see if it made any automatically.

I had one automatic collection, containing one film… an obscure documentary from 2001.

If it will automagically make useful collections like John Wick films, is there a setting somewhere I need to check?

Edit your movie library and go to the Advanced tab, scroll down to “Minimum automatic collection size” and set it appropriately:

Once that value is set, refresh the metadata for the entire library.
