upon selecting a movie to play, a random movie is selected instead.
I’ve tried re-scanning with no luck.
This only happens on server.
the Web desktop client player works fine.
all web plex clients work find.
Only when on the server does it not play the selected movie.

Are you sure that what’s playing is a movie and not just a trailer for a random movie?
Look in the preferences of the client if an automatic trailer playback is activated. If so, disable it.
The client works fine. It’s the server web-interface that has the issue. No, auto-trailers are off.

I found the checkbox you were referring to and that has solved my issue.
I wasn’t aware those were trailers being played.
It was under settings → Plex Web → Player , extras. set to none to disable trailers.
