I don't suppose that will be on the MediaStream Skin will it ?
Just installed 0.4 RC1 this evening. Great job - really a big difference with menu performance. Thank you!!!
I'd like to have a clear picture about that shutdown issue.
I'm using my Rpi connected to an HDMI TV thru CEC, and powering of the tv will trigger proper shutdown of the RPi in 100% cases.
Could you give me more details about what procedure / case is not working for you ?
I'm not sure if you're asking me or "johnnybling1", but I'll reply in any case, as I think we have different cases.
I never use HDMI interactions because it always leads to inappropriate results.
I do not ever want turnoff of a TV set to also turn off other devices, or vice versa.
So I always disable all such features, and that does work fine with RasPlex as well.
What does NOT work properly is to use the Shutdown command in the side-menu of the 'Home' menu of the RasPlex PHT.
That only works reliably directly after a boot/reboot, but after using any submenus or media playing an attempt to shutdown rarely succeeds, mostly failing in either one of two different ways. One way is as described in my previous post, where the shutdown attempt instead results in a soft reboot. The other way is trickier to identify, as it seems almost to have succeeded. The screen goes black and stays that way, and the LEDs flicker at first in the manner normal for a shutdown attempt, but the LEDs never stabilize in the correct state (should be only one red LED), and for some of these cases an access LED of a USB drive may also keep blinking forever (risky!).
I interpret these two cases as two different failures to terminate background processes, in one case leading to a forced reboot, and in the other case leading to an eternal loop waiting for some sub-process response that never comes.

Thanks for details dlanor,
I want to identify when this does happen if i want to look into this.
I'll try to play around with menus & playback see if i can reproduce that.
If anyone can come with a reproductible scenario for this, that would be appreciated :)
Ok found a way to properly shutdown from ShutDown menu.
So here is what i suggest
- Shutdown remains but fixed
- Remove Quit as its useless
- Remove Sleep as RPi doesnt support it
- Add Restart menu entry that will trigger a reboot command

Excellent !!!!
Excellent !!!!
Cool so an update expected soon then? Still struggling with shutdown options on peripherals seems every option either turns the tv back on or re boots the pi if anyone out there has tv& pi synced so that the tv turns off the pi can they post there settings cheers
Last night I found that Raspberry Pi auto updated to 0.4.0 RC1.
This was very disorientating as it was very slow as it was loading all the artwork and it has changed the layouts and realized it must be an update
I found (as I see others reporting):
Views changed: only has new hybrid details/ list or grid poster mode (but no titles)
Music not playing :(
But HALLELUJAH!!!!
Video channels now working (I test qute a few and unsupported ones too)

Tried to changed to other skin to get layouts back - but Media stream has backgrounds missing as reported...
Hopefully the layout issue and music not playing will be sorted out very soon - but otherswise very happy channels are working and will have to just grit teeth and try use new layout.
Just wanted to add to my previous "complains", a big THANK YOU for all the hard work the rasplex team puts in!!

I believe you updated from an old stable version of RasPlex, which were all based on rather old PHT versions like 0.9.9.7.
The new 0.4.0 rc1, like some recent RasPlex betas, is based on the current PHT series, now at version 1.0.12
(But the new RasPlex release candidate is probably based on PHT 1.0.10 (as 1.0.12 is too new, and 1.0.11 has other bugs))
Music not playing :(
That's due to a known mistake in the latest RasPlex port of PHT, intended to fix transcoding decisions.
It should be fixed in next release.
But HALLELUJAH!!!!

Yes, this is one of the major improvements in the new release (also in the preceding betas).
Tried to changed to other skin to get layouts back - but Media stream has backgrounds missing as reported...
This is due to major changes to the skin API as implemented for PC PHT by the Plex team.
These changes have made ALL existing alternate skins incompatible to varying degree with the new PHT versions, including the old default skin 'MediaStream'. Only the built-in 'Plex' skin is fully compatible with the new standards.
Two other skins come very close though, those being the 'Night' and 'Amber' skins, which work fine with current PHT versions, though even they suffer from a few limitations. The new PHT skin API no longer allows for the traditional method of saving individual ViewMode settings for different list levels (Seasons VS Episodes etc), since they didn't need that in the limited 'Plex' skin. So they abolished that method with no regard for how it would affect more complex skin designs. Thus some loss of control of the ViewModes currently affects all existing PHT skins.
Hopefully the layout issue and music not playing will be sorted out very soon - but otherswise very happy channels are working and will have to just grit teeth and try use new layout.
The layout issue is an original PHT fault, and modifying it would make RasPlex incompatible with alternate PHT skin designs, which will hopefully be improved soon to eliminate the flaws that the new PHT design forced on them. (Methods for skins to save ViewMode settings independent of the new PHT standards have been discussed).
And the known music bug is sure to be fixed in an upcoming RasPlex release.

I agree with all the others in saying that this is exactly what we need.
Shutdown and Restart are the two commands that make good sense for an RPi.
----- topic switch -----
I've just noticed that the new RasPlex version specifies only the RasPlex version identifier, not only in the RasPlex-specific submenu, but also in the standard PHT menu for system updates in the entry for 'Current version'. There's no mention whatever of which PHT version this RasPlex release is based on, which in my opinion is a serious mistake.
Every port of PHT should include a statement about what PHT version it was based on.

Hi,
my rasplex auto-updated yesterday.
After the known problem with screen resolution on 1st boot it is working quite stable, but the CEC is not working at all ?!
in 9.9.20 I was able to control the Rapslex with my Panasonic TV remote. Now with 0.4.0 no key is recognized
Any change in CEC library support ?
Regards
Kivas
there shouldn't be any CEC support change.
@dlanor : this is a question that we have been asking to ourselves ... though this specific version is used for the autoupdate system in PHT and in RasPlex and as we're not running on the same versions it might be tricky.
But i quite agree with you it might be good to have the upstream version somewhere.
Previously before my Rasplex auto updated itself to this release candidate (the first time it has updated to a RC and without my asking it to do so) ), I had the CEC settings so that when I turned off my Samsung TV, the Raspberry PI would also 'shutdown' (only red lights showing, and my Samsung AV would also shot down.
Now however if I turn off the TV - the Raspberry Pi rebbots turning the TV and the AV sydten back on. If I use Shitdown or Quit in Rasplex then it also reboots instead. I tried setting the CEC seetings to ignore for when TV is switched off. This allows you to turn off the TV and AV, but the Raspberry PI remains on.
I tried to set the auto updates back to STABLE version (as I saw that this is supposed to reload last stable version) - so I could see what release that was and if it was the release I was previously running. But msg stated You are up to date.

The Pi takes so little power leaving it on really isn't much of a problem. In fact the benefit of not having to wait for it to boot is in my opinion better anyways!

I am also, as has been reportred here, having the long wait problem when I enter my movies section.
Initially I thought my enter press on my remote had not registred and so prseed again - this opened the description of the first movie in my libray. So I hit the back key and the screen goes black for 15 seconds. The movie library in question only has 365 movies in it. This is less than a 1/10 of my entire collection. So 15 x 10 = 150 seconds.
So I figured out to wait when nothing hsappens when you select the Movies section - It then takes 12 seconds before the screen goes black. Then a further 3 seconds before the movies section appears.

Vampire Energy Loss
Standby power might seems insignificant on its own. But it does account for 5-10% of your energy bill. For a family that would equate to the costs of 10 Raspberry Pis....And mutilpying it by all the biilions of devices it adds up to a massive amount. Reported in 2008 to be around $4 Billion in the USA per year.
I have all my equipment on a power switch with a remote control - that switches off the power to all at once.
